When morning came, Alex kissed Emily on the forehead as she slept and left her behind. He did not know when he would return, but he knew it would be some time before he could see her pretty face again. Now that Ozdemir had seized absolute power in the Airport, it was no longer safe for Alex to stay here, especially since Alex had recently intimidated the man known as the Rat, who was especially well known for holding grudges. 

Thus Alex and his party escaped beyond the walls at dawn when the sentry shifts were being changed. Due to the recent siege and the deaths of several gang leaders, the airport was currently on lockdown. Nobody was allowed in or out until Ozdemir had finalized his purges and solidified his authority. After hopping over a dilapidated section of the wall, the party ran off into the ruins of Las Vegas.
