I Love Getting Hit

'Huh?' Obcisor exclaimed internally. 'Did I just randomly get a skill?' He opened up his skill from his skill info page.

'Damn. That's more explanation than I was expecting. Also, how do I use it?'. He thought to himself. Mikaela hadn't bothered explaining much so that he could learn everything by himself and only told his some bare few tidbits so he could function in the virtual world.

To an awakened person, their skills were as simple to use as moving their fingers. All they had to do was think about it and the skill would activate. But this didn't seem to work the same way. He thought back to those action cartoons he used to watch where they would shout out their attack names. 'Do I really have to shout the name? Whatever. Here it goes.'

"Consecutive Strike" he shouted hoping to get some sort of reaction. And reaction he did get. His skill didn't activate. No, the reaction he got was from the other players looking at him probably thinking to themselves, ' What is that weirdo doing here?'

He looked around at all the players staring at him and showed a small embarrassed smile and continued hitting the pupped silently. 'Stupid. Stupid.' He berated himself. Suddenly,

<[Consecutive Strike] dealt 3 x 9 damage to the 'Wooden Puppet'>

'Hmm.' He hadn't even done anything but just hit the puppet a while and it activated by itself. He decided to check the skill info once more and only this time did he realize what had happened. Since it was a passive skill, he didn't need to activate it himself. Considering there was a randomness factor in the function of the skill, he probably just had to hit the enemy a few times for it to activate.

He continued hitting the wooden puppet. By now, his speed at hitting the puppet had increased tremendously. Specially given the fact that every 10 or so seconds, the [Consecutive Strike] skill would activate and hit the puppet 2 to 5 times. During the quest, he got 2 extra VIT points for heavily physically taxing his body. He finished the mini-quest in virtually no time. Once he had collected all the 10 STR points, he went back to Tom.

Reward : +1 to both VIT and DEF. Max VIT and DEF gained is 10 each. >

As soon as he got the quest he didn't wait for Tom to tell him to get beat and went there by himself. Puppets were spinning with 4, 3cm thick stick attached to them. One would have to go to the middle and get beat. Obcisor readied himself and entered the fray.

'Bam. Bam.' The sticks hit him harder than he was expecting. 'Damn. That hurts.' He looked at his HP and it didn't look like it was going down at all. 'So, they only want me to get hit but not take damage huh. Why did they make it so painful anyway those sadistic bastards. It was alright for the sword to feel real, why did the pain have to be real as well. What would happen if god forbid, he get stabbed or burned.' Obcisor shuddered a bit thinking about it. It had been years since he had been hurt at all. And now, to feel hurt … it wasn't actually that bad. Once, he had stopped getting hurt by those simple demonlings in the dungeon. He had gotten overconfident because of that and nearly died at the hand of a demon general.

Now that he was getting hurt, maybe he would start to take the fights in the game more seriously and might actually succeed at it. Just as he was thinking about it, he got the notification,

'So fast!! I just got started.' He was just thinking about how getting hit might be a good thing for him and he had already increased his stats by 1. 'Hmm. If using different method to hit gave me a skill, will blocking in a different method also give me skill'. He was wondering if there was anything to do when he once again got the stats increase notification.

"Damn. I love getting hit." He stopped talking as soon as he realized what he had just shouted. But the damage was already done. He slowly turned his head to look at the players in the field. They had once again all stopped doing their task and were looking at him as if they were looking at a weirdo.

"Ahem" someone coughed slightly behind him.

He turned around to see a girl standing behind him. Her name was hidden, so she must've been a player. "Do you need something." He asked her.

The girl smiled wryly and said, "Um.. I was just going to tell you that you don't have to get the stat increase more than once to complete the mini-quest. But it seems it was my bad. I didn't know you were staying here because you liked getting hit. I'm sorry for the interruption. Goodbye." She left as fast as she came.

Obcisor didn't even get to defend himself. He didn't know whether to laugh or cry. The sticks were still hitting him.

He could hear people murmur.

"How is he not dead yet?"

"Damn, I don't think he is even taking any damage."

" No way, those sticks do 3 damage each. For him to not take any damage he would have to have over 15 DEF stats. But he is only level 1. He shouldn't have that yet."

"Maybe he does. Maybe he got lucky."

"Do you know how stat distribution work? You only have about 60-65 stats as a Level 1 player. If he really got 25% of the total stats in his defense, that would mean he has really bad numbers for the rest of the stats. I hope he has really good VIT so that he could play a Defense focused class. Otherwise, it would be better to just remake his character from the beginning."

Obcisor had already stopped listening to other people as he was too embarrassed about his stunt and started focusing on his quest. It didn't take him long to get all the 20 Stats. Before he knew it, the quest was over.

He tried to get some skills during the mini-quest, but it seemed he had just gotten lucky the first time. No maneuver he did during the 2nd mini quest resulted in him getting any new skill. He slowly returned to Tom. While the mini-quest had been easily completed, it had still hurt him a lot. He couldn't understand why the developers would want to put people through so much pain. Couldn't they have at least decreased it a bit.

He stood in front of Tom expecting to get another mini-quest, this time for his AGI or maybe INT, but instead he just got a weird look from Tom. "What's wrong?" he asked.

"Did you complete the quest without taking any rest?" Tom asked.

"Yes. It hurt a lot, but I didn't stop to take a rest." He said.

"And you didn't die?" Tom asked once more.

"No. I didn't take any damage to die." He answered.

"If that is so, then you deserve this." Tom said as he pulled out a weird looking vest

Ding.
