Chapter 8 - doom barrier suit

The suit was slowly being lifted out of the ground.

As Vernond looked at the around 1.8 meters (2 yards) high suit, which was tailored for a slightly muscular man, he didn't knew what to say.

It looked like a mixture of a spacesuit, and a black suit.

It consisted of 3 pieces, the first one was the helmet, which was completely reflective with a silver luster to it. The biggest part of the helmet was the reflective part and only the back and small part of the side were black in color and not reflective, only reaching forward to his ears.

The helmet was very slim and tight fitting around his head, however except for the ears nothing was specially outlined and was formed like a normal helmet of sort.

The second piece is a black body tight suit, which is like neoprene, and the third piece is the actual suit, that had similarities with an military ceremonial uniform because of it's shoulder pats. They consisted of one continuous light blue line on both shoulders.

Furthermore, the neck area of the suit, which was visible looked metallic, but it had some small orange lights distributed throughout. The tie which was right below the metallic area, was completely black and had two orange vertical stripes around it.

Vernond looked at the suit and frowned, before asking. "Why should I wear this suit, mine is fine the way it is, isn't it? Or does it have some advantages?"

Sarah answered fast. "Of course it has some advantages, why else would I offer it to you?"

"One of those advantages is, that it hides your identity. That is quite important, after all if anyone would find out, they could abuse it in order to gain benefits from you."

"Furthermore it provides both attack and defensive, as well as supportive capabilities. It can provide you with an portable shield, that will either if danger approaches or if you want it to activate, another defensive tool are the physical force absorption capabilities."

"Though the shield and shock absorption is quite good if it comes to defense, what use is it, if you can't stop your enemies from attacking. Therefore the suit is equipped with an high energy beam weapon, as well as a pulse system, which is able to fire nearly every pulse you want."

"However, those things obviously need power to work, that's why it has an portable power core and the ability to receive energy from a nearby ship or transmitter array."

"Other support equipment are for example the mini thrusters and anti-gravitational system, with which you can fly, as well as the small life support system, for space, and uninhabitable or hazardous areas."

Vernond was a bit dumbfounded by what he heard, after all everything he saw was a normal suit, with a helmet.

He stepped a bit closer to the suit to inspect it, before turning around and asking Sarah another question.

"What is it called? Does it have some special name or something?"

"It's called doom barrier suit."

"That's the name?" Vernond asked doubtfully, while raising his eyebrows a bit. "That sounds a bit… simple. Let's put it this way."

He was secretly excited about the suit, wanting to put it on immediately and experience what it was like to fly himself. Though there are suits which are able to fly, those are incredibly expensive and only some selected few of the army are allowed to wear them. And although there are lots of ships, that's not the same as to take to the sky, only yourself, covered by a suit.

While thinking about that, he without it knowing started grinning a bit.

Sarah just floated beside him, seemingly doing nothing, as the rings around her rotated very slowly. However no one could know that she was looking at him intensely, almost as if she was studying him.

A few seconds later, Vernond shook his head to clear his thoughts.

Seeing that, Sarah said. "Do you want to try it on?"

As Vernond nodded his head furiously, the suit floated towards him with a low humming sound.

It came closer and closer, and just as it was about to touch him, it opened up. The arms, legs, torso and even the helmet, every part of it split open, just enough to let him slip in and close right after.

He opened his eyes, after he unconsciously closed them and the moment he did, he saw a simple HUD inside the helmet, showing him some stats about the suit, like the energy levels, damage, weapon availability and such.

He heard Sarahs voice soon after.

"The HUD can be changed at your will, also if you want it, you can display it through your chip."

Hearing that, he gave a command to the chip in his head, showing the HUD directly in his eyes instead on the helmet.

"Alright, what's up next Sarah?" Vernond asked, expecting another great tool, or overall something to help him.

"The next item would be…." She abruptly stopped mid sentence.

Vernond looked at her, and the moment he did, he saw that the rings around her started spinning at a higher velocity.

Wondering what that was about, he wanted to ask, however the next moment she spoke again.

"There are capsules similar to yours. They are a few light years away, however most of them seem intact. But there's a problem. A small ship, around 600 meters (656 yards) is currently collecting them."

At first shock appeared on his face, soon however, that shock quickly turned into excitement and hope, before his face turned into a grim expression once more.

He felt extremely relieved knowing that at least some of his former subordinates and friends are still alive, however knowing that they are probably being attacked at the moment, he couldn't just do nothing and watch.

Therefore he ordered clearly. "Prepare the ship for battle, Sarah, and the restrictions concerning the movement are hereby revoked."

"Let's save them, shall we?"

"As you command, my lord." Said Sarah, and at the same moment, her rings started spinning at an extremely high speed.
