The Sun is Beautiful

"Janel?"

The voice calling my name sounded like Talia. I kept my eyes closed for a minute and turned over.

I felt the sunlight and it's heat on my back.

I yawned all sleepy-ied and stretched my legs.

The smell of turkey bacon field my nostrils. I tried to let sleep take over again but the covers were pulled off the top of me. I groaned in annoyance and reached for invisible sheets.

"Nel get up I made breakfast" the sound of Talia's voice made me smile inside.

The last time I didn't get up she kneed me in the stomach.

Something fluffy tickled my nose and I scrunched my nose up. Hoping it'll go away.

1st stage: verbal wake up call

2nd stage: covers pulled

3rd stage: rubbing my nose with something fluffy

4th stage: cussing

5th stage: jumps on my spine

I opened my eyes and Talia was rubbing my cheeks now.

I laughed and sat up.

"Okay I'm up, im coming" she smiled brightly.

I got out the bed, did a little stretching and headed to the bathroom as she runs out the room.

Sheesh...I can never remember my dreams these days.

Why was I mad but calm...

Please remember...please.

Come on you stupid brain.

While I was brushing my teeth I stared into my eyes in the mirror. A beautiful green color that stood out more when I was in direct sunlight.

I stared for too long and started to scare myself so I went on to using my acne treatment scrub.

Why can't I remember that dream!! Ugh this is super frustrating.

When I finished I walked outside the room. As I walk towards the kitchen I heard a loud thud. I didn't even bother to go find out what it was. I know it's just Talia trying to wake Von up. And I had a feeling she skipped the 3rd and 4th stage because he's a heavy sleeper.

I glance at the breakfast on top of the stove in pans and sat out some paper plates. I washed my hands and made everyone's plate then sat it on the dining room table.

I knew it was going to take a minute for Talia to wake Von up so I began eating. I sat on the side where I was facing the balcony. The blinds were opened a bit and the bright sun brought light to all of Earth's living creatures.

The sun is so beautiful

What would we do without it

I could see the balcony across from mine. The man that stays there was watering his plants with a large sun hat and shades on.

My thoughts drifted off to the guy I met yesterday.

Just for a second I almost forgot about him.

What was his name?

....I didn't ask.

Maybe he'll come back.

He seems nice.

A motion image of him twisting that beautiful red leaf appeared in my head. It was haunting but oddly calming to me. He's seems like the type of person that doesn't like to share his feelings.

I pulled away from my thoughts seeing Talia push Von to the dining table as he rubbed his baggy eyes and tried his best not to fall.

I grinned; trying to contain my laughter.

"If you jump on me one more time I'm going to hurt you Talia" Von said taking his place at the table.

"If you get up then I wouldn't have too. Plus I made breakfast so hurting me wouldn't be the smart thing to do" she sat down as well and began eating just as he did.

As I began to tune out their conversation it seemed like it kept escalating the more I let my thoughts take over.

I wouldn't know what to do if I lost these two idiots.

I watched as Talia talk and hit Von on the back of his head.

It's so great to be alive.

After breakfast Von left for work, Talia was off to college and I had a day off today.

•••

I spent most of the day cleaning and catching up on homework assignments. Talia eventually came home but went to her friend Mara's house.

I sat on my bed looking around the room.

I switched my sweats to a pair of blue jeans and put on my socks, shoes, and a hoodie. I picked up the polaroid and walked outside on the balcony.

Hoping that I'd see Greylar again.

I looked around and down below.

I placed the camera up to my eye and looked into the viewfinder. I looked at the now blue sky and the white clouds but it was only 7:00pm. I slowly looked over the different colored trees.

The wind carries them in unison.

While still looking in the viewfinder, I slowly turned from the left, going to the right and there he was. Staring at me with intense eyes.

I took the picture and then moved the camera from my face. I waited for the photo to appear by hiding it in darkness.

I realized what I had done was probably rude but instead of apologizing for taking his picture I continued to stare at the photo.

I walked towards the right side of the balcony and reached over it to handed him the photo. He stared at me for a few seconds then the picture.

"Wow, what a creep you are" he said laughing a little.

"I'm not a creep I swear" I say almost shouting.

Didn't expect to hear that come out of his mouth...

"Then how do you explain this evidence" he said.

He grinned then took the picture.

I watched him as he dug in his pocket and take a pen out. He popped the pen top off with his teeth and held it with his teeth. He then turned the picture over and scribbled something on the back of it. I watched him and tried to guess what he could be writing in my head.

He put the top on the pen and placed it into his pocket. I sat the polaroid on a patio chair in the right corner of my balcony. As I placed the polaroid in the comfy patio chair he reached over the balcony to hand me the photo. I took the picture from him while looking at him then flipped it over to look at what he wrote.

-Next time take one with the both of us in it. I'll take that one

Oct / x / xxxx

-Greylar

I smiled at the picture without realizing it and then looked up at him.

He was looking at me.

I slid the picture in my jean pocket.

"If you could go anywhere in the world where would it be?" His voice sounded so clear because its so quiet outside.

He leaned on the balcony rails.

"Um.....let's see. I don't know actually. Where would you go?"

Listening to my own voice sounds weird.

He didn't answer.

Instead he took off his coat and propped himself up on the balcony rails.

I stared at him to see what he was doing.

He turned around to where his feet dangled over the balcony rails and wrapped his foot around one rail for support and then held out his hand for me to take it.

Wow he must be crazy. It's even more weird that I want to follow him to see where he goes.

My curiosity sometimes scares me.

Man if I had a dime for everytime I heard Clara say you can be grown but you aren't an exception to being kidnapped.

I took a step forward towards the balcony rails.

"Don't look down, look at me" he said with his hand still held out.

I was getting nervous and I felt a lowly shake in my hands. But I couldn't tell whether I was excited or scared. I put one foot on the opposite side of the rail where a small space for the heal of my foot could rest and did the same with my other foot.

It's not too late to turn back now.

My hands began to shake more and I felt more nervous than before.

I didn't try my hardest not to look down. I feel like sometimes you have to look down to know how not to fall.

He copied what I did and held out both of his hands this time. I gripped the rail with my right hand and extended my left foot far out to reach the edge of his balcony. Only the tip of my foot could rest there so I turned my foot sideways. I placed both of my hands in the palm of his hands.

I was starting to feel embarrassed because I was shaking and I know he could feel it.

He held them both tightly, pulled me with full force and my foot left my side of the balcony.

I was pulled into his arms.

I wrapped my arms around his neck and he wrapped his arms around my waist to make sure I didn't slip or fall. I didn't let him go until I could see my feet touched the ground. He gripped the rail with his left hand while his right arm stayed tightly wrapped around my waist.

This feels so weird.

I inhaled the cold air and exhaled.

He finally pulled me up over the balcony and I let go of him.

"I have 10 places" he said jumping over the balcony and grabbing his coat that was on the ground.
