Chapter 56

Lucinda's POV

Dark circles rimmed my eyes and they looked bloodshot. Is this what lack of sleep does to you? And this hangover isn't helping either. Damn you Dami. I sighed and splashed my face with water to somehow try to put some life back in my face.

I couldn't stop thinking about what happened last night. I kept trying to wrap my head around it but my thoughts always lead to another thing. Eventually the sun began to rise and I was out of sleeping hours.

I would sleep in but we're literally a day away from the wedding and Diego would have my head. Decided to get ready for the day. Turning the shower setting to extremely cold I jumped when the water touched my skin.

I mustered up the courage to stand under the water and suffered for a few seconds before my body adjusted. After I was done I put on the first thing I saw in my suitcase which just happened to be a black jumpsuit. Deciding it was good enough I put it on, along with a little bit of makeup and left my hair in waves.

With the last look in the mirror I decided I was decent enough I walked out of the room. The house was already bustling with people. Caterers, make-up artists and all kinds of family had arrived earlier in the day... Or later last night. Honestly I wasn't really paying attention.

Suddenly my thoughts drifted back to Donny and me last night. Just at that moment I happened to lock eyes with him before a clipboard was shoved into my hands.

"You're late! Honestly though Lucy I thought you'd have better time management. Everything on this list must be done today..."

I looked down at the clipboard in my hands and jaw dropped to the ground.

"This is like two dozen things Dee! How the hell am I going to get this done?"

"Maybe if you would have gotten up earlier you'd be halfway through by now... And besides Don's gonna help you and-"

He looked up momentarily from what he was doing and gave me a once-over.

"Woah! What happened to you and why the hell are you wearing black?"

I opened my mouth to answer but he dismissed me.

"Whatever... just get this done. And can you call Cindy and ask her how the flowers are coming. Also grab Don and head into town to pick up the cake."

"Are you kidding me... You're adding more things?"

He sighed and grabbed me by the collar of my jumpsuit and stared me in the eyes.

"Lucy... This is the most important day of my life, Don't fuck it up."

With that he walked away barking some order about napkins. I sighed and went back upstairs to get my purse. On my way down I met Donny. He was leaning against the railing with a bored expression on his face.

Does he always lean on things?

Concentrating too hard on his figure I missed the last step and went tumbling forward. I closed my eyes in anticipation for impact with the ground but it never came. Opening my eyes I realised someone was holding me.

I blinked once. And then again before I scrambled out of his arms. How cliché was that?

"You okay?"

"Uh... Yeah. As okay as a pig in a blanket."

What the fuck was that?

He made a face and I cringed.

"Um... Okay? I heard we're working together today."

"I mean... We don't have to... You could stay here and I could uh go and get this stuff done."

"Pretty sure we're supposed to do this together-"

"No, No! It's completely fine I'll manage..."

I began to walk away but he grabbed my hand and spun me around and stared me directly in the eyes. A wave of electricity passed through my body and I gulped.

"You're so god-damn stubborn."

He walked past me while still holding my hand and pulled me along with him. Everyone else was too busy to notice us and we just kept walking until we made it outside.

He let go of my hand and began to pat his pockets and he swore.

"I forgot my keys..."

I fished around in my purse and found mine then jangled them in his face. He smirked and attempted to take them but I snatched them back.

"Excuse me, I'm driving..."

I threw my hair over my shoulder and walked to the drivers side of my car. I unlocked it and got in the drivers seat. I waited for him to get in before I started the car. He looked at me and smiled... Like genuinely smiled.

He chuckled and I found myself laughing along with him.

"What?"

"You're different..."

I scrunched up my face in confusion.

"Different in a good way or a bad way?"

"In an interesting way...."

I furrowed my brows even more.

"Interesting how?"

"One minute you're timid and shy then the next you're a boss ass bitch who doesn't let anyone get in her way..."

"Don't be salty about not letting you drive my car. She's my baby."

I said proudly. He raised his hands as a sign of surrender.

"Hey... I feel the exact same way about my car. No hard feelings whatsoever ever."

"Good..."

"You know... I've never met anyone like you before... I must say it's been a wild ride Lucinda Morningstar."

"And yet everyday I still can't figure out the greatest anomaly to ever exist. Why does Donavan Xavier Christopher McConaughey always wear leather jackets?"

"It's a style preference! And why the hell did you remember all my names?"

I smiled smugly.

"For blackmail purposes and if you ask me, you're hiding something."

"You're weird... But a good kind of weird. The kind the world needs."

I smiled at that and started the car.

"We should probably go... I can feel Diego's glare from the living room window."

He looked out the windshield and laughed.

"Shit... We should probably leave before he telepathically sets the car on fire."

I laughed and pulled out of the driveway and made my way into town.
