Chapter 61

Lucinda's POV

Rushing as quickly as I could I made my way to the staircase where Dee was going to decend. He said he wanted a grand entrance while Matty said he wants to be standing at the alter.

After making sure that the carpet was laid properly I asked the orchestra to get ready. Once Lou was in place and everyone had started to find their seats I rushed back upstairs to get my husband-to-be. Just as I reached the top I heard the voices of males and females and saw that luckily all the bridesmaids and groomsmen were all ready.

They started going outside so I took that as my queue to hurry the fuck up. Speed walking to his room I was astonished when I opened the door. To say Diego looked extravagant was an understatement.

I've been saying a lot of things are an understatement lately but it's not bothering me cause its true.

"We ready?"

"Born ready!"

Sylvie congratulated Dee and left while we walked down the hallway. On our way I thought it important to go over how everything will go.

"So once we get to the staircase just wait until I get outside and tell the orchestra to start the music before you go down the stairs okay?"

"Yes..."

"And once at the door leading out to the dais you wait until Lou makes it to the end of the aisle..."

"Yes..."

"Then from there-"

"Lucy! I was there for rehearsals yesterday. I'm pretty sure I know how to get to the alter."

I scrunched up my eyebrows in confusion.

"We had rehearsals yesterday?"

"Yes my sleeping beauty. While you were taking a nap we were rehearsing the ceremony."

I felt my cheeks flame up in embarrassment. I had totally forgotten about all else after my short mental breakdown.

"It's totally okay sweets, if you ask me... You've been working harder than most of us. You needed it."

I smiled gently and we arrived at the staircase where we met John, Diego's dad, who embraced me in a hug before I rushed quickly down the stairs and signalled for the orchestra to start the song.

Before walking outside I bent down to Lou's level.

"When I get to the end of the alter you can start spreading the rose petals okay?"

She nodded excitedly. I know how happy she was when she got the flower girl job. I looked down at her dress and saw that Donavan was right indeed. Indigo was the way to go.

Once outside the orchestra started to play the backtrack to 'A thousand years' by Christina Perri. I quickly walked down the aisle and Lou followed behind me.

I stood on the side with the bridesmaids who all looked amazing in their matching blue dresses. Once Lou was at the end of the aisle Dee showed up in front of the doors and everyone stood up and turned their attention to him.

He took a deep breath and began moving towards us. With the biggest smile on my face I watched him approach before he broke out in a short run and jumped into Matty's arms. Everyone including me laughed before Matty put him down and we sat down for the beginning of the ceremony.

Once everyone was seated we all waited for the reverend started the ceremony. Matty and Dee turned to each other with glossy eyes and I smiled at their genuine love for each other.

"Dearly beloved, we are all gathered here today to witness the union of Diego Ernesto Velazquez and Mathias Xortis. If there is anyone here who is against this union speak now or forever hold your peace..."

It was silent for a moment and I could feel the anxiety biting at the tips of my fingers before a bird squacked somewhere and everyone laughed. So did the reverend.

"Shall we proceed with the vows?"

Matty went first.

"Diego, the day I met you was probably the weirdest day of my life..."

Everyone laughed.

"... I still remember it like it was yesterday. You came up to me with a random woman and asked me if there was a difference between something if the name of it is pronounced differently. I remember saying no and you celebrated in front of the poor woman who looked embarrassed..."

Everyone laughed again. Did they just plan their entire wedding to be a comedy festival.

"... After that encounter in the grocery store I couldn't stop thinking about you. And fortunately on the same day you strolled into my club with my favorite customer and I knew it was fate..."

I smiled when I was mentioned in the story and Lisa nudged me and I giggled lightly.

"... My love, my everything. I can't imagine a life without in it. I honestly can't even remember what life was like before I met you. All I know is that I want to spend the rest of my life with you and there's nothing more I want then for you to say you want that too."

Diego nodded vigorously and everyone chuckled then he began to speak.

"Matty... I honestly don't even know what I was thinking the day we met in the grocery store. But if I wasn't so hell bent on being right I probably would have never met you and I don't really see a happy future that you aren't in.

You make me feel special, loved, cared for and most importantly happy. You've been with me through my worst and my even more worse... "

Everyone laughed again.

"... But you've stayed with me nomatter what the world threw at us. You're my rock, my stability and my greatest love. And I would love nothing than to spend the rest of my life just showing you how much I love you."

There were a few 'aws' before the reverend got everyone's attention again.

"And now we will exchange the rings..."

Lou gave the Rev. two rings from her tiny basket which he handed to Matty.

"Repeat after me... I, Mathias Xortis take thee Diego Ernesto Velasquez to be my lawfully wedded husband. Through sickness and in health, rich and poor till death do us part."

Matty repeat the word to the letter while putting the ring on Dee's finger. Rev. then handed Dee a ring to put on Matty's finger.

"Repeat after me... I, Diego Ernesto Velasquez take thee Mathias Xortis to be my lawfully wedded husband. Through sickness and in health, rich and poor till do us part."

Dee repeat the Rev's words while slipping the ring onto Matty's finger.

"With the power vested in me... I now pronounce you spouses for life. You may now kiss your husband."

They kissed and it erupted in swelling applause from the audience. Once that was all done the guest were lead to the backyard for some drinks where everything for the reception was set up while the bridal party, including myself, went to get changed for the reception.
