Chapter 71

Lucinda's POV

I've never been so disappointed to wake up in my own house before. I feel like me and Donny conquered a huge milestone two days ago. After he dropped me off at my house he kinda just ghosted me, like our time together meant nothing.

But there's this nagging feeling in me that's just telling me that he's going through something and that I should give him space. With eight days left on my deadline I figured I should spend the most of time with him. Chase and have reconciled to a certain point that we're not particularly awkward with each other, more like just ignoring existing problems.

I still haven't made my decision on whether I should take his soul or not. After having several conversations with Dami I still haven't gotten to a clear answer and it's killing me inside.

Matty and Diego are still on thier honeymoon and I highly doubt I'll be able to see them before the end of my deadline. Or I could see them and we could all attend a funeral together. The prospect of either doesn't seem so appealing.

My indecisiveness has gotten so bad that I've made a pros and cons board. So far it hasn't been helpful either cause I always end up with a tie.

Then there's the other problem.

My obvious and evident feelings for Donavan Xavier Christopher McConaughey. That leather jacket wearing, Harley Davidson riding, guitar playing, family loving, always mischievously smirking asshole.

At some point I knew that these feelings existed but I ignored then because he did and that was okay at the time. But now I'm so close to leaving and I feel like if I don't tell him how I feel I'll regret it more than anything in my entire life.

But also on the other hand. If I do tell him how I feel, I'll have to explain why I have to leave in eight days. Mortals have never really taken the news well that they demons are living among them. Dami was the exception. And I'd be damned if I made that mistake again.

Crouching down on the floor I dug my fingers into my hair. With a deep sigh I placed my back against the wall. Just as I was about to consider putting on some music there was a knock on my door.

For a second I kinda just stared at the door unaware or what to do before another knock jerked me out of my trance and I was off the floor and opening the door. A man, in a suit with an envelope in his hands, stood before me. He looked to be in his forties with an office job.

"Ms Morningstar?"

He asked with a friendly smile on his face. This stranger know my name. I looked him up and down warily and leaned against my door.

"Yes?"

He seemed to be relieved that he found me and got his composure once more. I found that my presence was making him uncomfortable and that put a smirk on my face.

"My name is Giovanni Nottingham-"

Italian name with an English surname... Interesting. I suppose he's mixed or he just had a parent who was really in love with the name Giovanni. I will admit it is quite a nice name.

"- And I'm an executive manager at McConaughey Incorporated. I have been sent here to give you this invitation to our annual fundraiser gala at Athena and Apolla Palace."

I took the envelope from his outstretched hand and took the invitation out. It was black with a golden pattern imprinted into it. I opened it and found my name imprinted in the invite as well.

"The twin gods hotel?"

He looked confused for a second and then nodded. Maybe he isn't into Greek Mythology or he just doesn't know the slang name for the hotel. Basically if you were to search either 'Athena and Apollo Palace' and 'The Twin God's Hotel' the internet would give you the same place.

"I suppose that's what they call it these days."

My eyes skimmed over the invite and I saw the date and my eyes grew larger.

"It's in seven days?!"

He seemed taken aback by my outburst before he adjusted his suit as an attempt to somehow collect himself.

"Uh yes Miss. Mr McConaughey will cover all the wardrobe and means of arriving if it too soon to find something suitable. Which is why I was personally asked to deliver this."

"Didn't even know they made executive managers deliver invitations these days. Its as if he made you his secretary."

He cleared his throat and rubbed his neck before he chuckled and I smiled.

"I just happened to owe him a favor."

"Quite an interesting was to cash it... Anyway thank you Gio- oh Mr Nottingham"

"You are quite welcome Ms Morningstar and if we ever meet again... Call me Gio."

I smiled at Gio as he left. I went back inside my house and eyed the invitation in my hands. My name was written there in golden cursive with a stern fine print at the bottom which stated 'This invitation is only for the use of the person it was given to and entrance shall not be allowed to those who don't possess it at the gala. NO PLUS ONES'

I scoffed at the absurd invitation before I threw it on my coffee table. How can he expect me to go to a gala on the day I could be possibly commiting a murder?

My phone vibrated from on the couch and I grabbed it to see a bunch of messages from the group chat. Donny was asking whether we had all received our invitations. Everyone responded with a confirmation, even Brendaline surprisingly got an invite, then there was me.

I contemplated just making up an excuse to not go but decided against it. I sent my confirmation message and collapsed on my bed. If I get it all figured out before my last day I could probably make it to the gala.

No.

I will make it to the gala even if its the last thing I do.
