Chapter 76

Lucinda's POV

Misha scoffed and then smiled knowingly before letting out a sad excuse of an evil chuckle. She stood up and walked over to the stand next to her walk and poured herself a glass of scotch.

"You're smarter than you look considering the fact that your father sold you."

I felt Donny stiffen beside me from the revelation. I remained unaffected.

"So he told you..."

She sipped on her scotch and smiled wickedly.

"Oh... He told me a lot of things. About your mother's death, how old were you again? Two? Must have been frightful to see that man slit her neck in front of you while your so called father cowered in the back."

I felt Donny stand but I held his thigh to stop him. He looked at me with distress in his eyes but I shook my head and he sat back down.

"And what is it you're gaining from taunting me? It's not like I give a shit."

She laughed and sipped her scotch again.

"Because it's fun. Unfortunately though your idiot of a father-"

"Stop calling him my father"

"- caught onto my plan. I met and married him two years ago. I've never seen someone so gullibly easy to manipulate. Listen to a sappy story here and comfort him and then boom! I was his wife. Of course I did it all for the money. Too bad the old fool realised that I didn't actually love him and excluded me from his will. The only reason why I am the sole owner of GA is because it was in the partnership agreement. Alas your name was written for sole inheritor."

She stopped talking whether to check if I was still listening. Donny was practical fuming in his chair, barely holding it together but stayed seated because of my hand on his thigh.

"At first it seem like something I could solve easily considering the fact that you were M.I.A for twenty-one years but your father had a very irritating secretary who spent months looking for you. If only he hadn't found you than all of that money would have mine. "

She scoffed in disbelief.

"So that whole your father recently passed shit was fake?"

"Oh yeah! He's been dead for months now. That kidney really did come back to bite him in the ass."

I stood up to her level and stared her down in the eyes.

"So what do you want Misha?"

She chuckled and plopped back down in her chair.

"Give me everything, the inheritance, the shares, the money. All of it."

This time I'm the one who laughed. I laughed so hard that tears started running down my face before I stopped. She was staring at me with an unamused expression.

"And what makes you think that I'll do that?"

She slammed her fist on the desk and stood up.

"You will do as I say!"

"Or what?! Hmm? Or motherfucking what?"

My demon side has begun to take control and I could tell that my eyes were changing colour. The longer we locked eyes the more of her oxygen I was taking. Tears began to form at the corners of her eyes while she gasped for breath.

A touch on my hand snapped me out of my trance and Misha fell back on the chair wheezing. I blinked a couple of times to get the red to fade away before I turned and looked at Donny. He had a pitiful look in his eyes but he smiled anyway. I nodded at him and he walked to the door and waited outside.

Misha was still on her chair clasping at her throat as though that would bring back the air. With Donny out of the room I saw no reason to hide my demon. Letting her take half control of me I grabbed Misha by the throat.

"Stay the fuck away from me and my inheritance or I will come for you. Understood?"

She nodded in my hold and after one last squeeze I let her go and calmed down before walking out the office. Donny, as always, was leaning against the wall while crossing his arms. He looked up as I came out and he embraced me in a tight hug.

Having no energy to fight back I accept the hug. I don't know how long we stayed in that position but at the moment I felt like everything was okay even though my entire life just blew up in my face and in front of the person I lo- like.

He pulled back after a few minutes in the hallway and guided me out of the building. Once in the car he held my hand and looked me deep in the eyes and asked.

"Where do you wanna go?"

"The florist."

He furrowed his brows but didn't ask further questions. Once there I purchased a bouquet of roses I asked him for the keys to the car so I could drive. As to where my mind was, I had no idea but I knew I was determined to get there.

Parking at the entrance of Eversden Cemetery I stared blankly at the gates. Why was I doing this? I owed him nothing and yet I find myself here, why?

With a deep breath, I took the bouquet and stepped out of the car. Donny was following closely behind me.

"I could stay out here if you want me to..."

I looked back at him and bit my lip.

"Please stay with me."

I guess the look on my face told him that I was on the brink of mental breakdown and I needed someone with me at the moment. He laced his fingers with my own and we walked in together.

Walking around the fairly small graveyard, which made sense considering the population of Eversden was less than three-thousand people, we looked around for my fathe- Alfred's tombstone. In the middle of the graveyard was a tombstone with a glass covering on top around it.

Drawing my attention we walked towards it and lo and behold was the name Alfred O'Connol engraved in gold. The plaque read 'Here lies Alfred O'Connol, loving husband, loyal friend and amazing father. He will be remembered for his go-lucky attitude and bright smile'
