Chapter 81

Lucinda's POV

As we stepped outside a limousine was waiting for us outside. A chauffeur helped me inside the car and Dami got in the other side. En route from my house to the hotel I kept fidgeting with my fingers. The anxiety that was building up inside of me and I couldn't sit still.

Amogst all the chaos in my head I was going to see Donny again which made me happy but Chase. I still hadn't broken it to him about recent developments but I needed him to stay here in the human realm so changing the way he felt about me was not a wise choice at the moment.

The limo began to slow and my anxiety skyrocketed. A line of cars were driving past the entrance with people wearing extravagant clothing getting out and walking down a red carpet. A crowd of photographer's were constantly taking pictures of each individual as they exited thier cars.

I looked at Dami with surprise and he was looking back at me with the same expression. I had no idea this was a high class event. Too bad I won't be able to enjoy it. After moving ever so slowly we finally arrived to the door twenty minutes later.

Dami was the first to get out after the chauffeur opened the door. He adjusted his tux and flashed a smile at the photographers who eagerly took multiple pictures of him. After his fifteen minutes of fame, which was about a few seconds, he turned back and helped me out of the car.

Making sure I didn't step on my dress I moved forward so that the chauffeur could close the door. He then retreated into the car and drove off. I began to walk up the carpet on Dami's arm while smiling as pictures were taken.

"Whenever you need me just call for my demon. I'll find you."

I looked up at him and nodded. He then placed a light kiss on my cheek and handed me off to Chase who had apparently shown up. Him and Dami did a man-hug thing and Dami disappeared into the building. I smiled up at Chase and he placed a kiss on my lips and I could hear multiple snaps of the cameras.

He pulled back and held out his arm for me and I looped them together and we walked inside. I released a nervous breath once finally away from all the flashing and the lights.

"It gets easier from time to time."

"I'm pretty sure you're already used to it."

"Honesty thier just looking for the next big scoop. It's always like that with the reporters, it always has been."

"It must have been hard... You know, growing up around this attention and media, constantly worrying about something that could ruin your reputation or your business' reputation."

"Yeah I guess. But enough with this touchy topic. I'd like to show off my hot girlfriend to all those petty snobs in there."

After entering the beautifully decorated ball room I was paraded around on Chase's are as he introduced me to investors, colleagues and his business partners which were all accompanied by escorts. Some of the men were married but found it too tedious to bring thier wives to such a prestigious event.

After getting sick of several sexist comments I was apparently told to ignore I left Chase and found my way to food table. I can't believe that he actually hangs around assholes like them... Or even tolerates them. I placed a miny strawberry tart in my mouth and scanned the room for any signs of Donny.

Not finding him I sighed and turned back to the food table eyeing all the different finger foods, all savoury and sweet.

"See anything you fancy?"

I jumped out of my skin at the sudden voice at my ear.

"Lucian! What the hell?!"

He held his chin thoughtfully and smirked.

"Hell... That's where we'll be in a few hours. With you beside my thrown."

"Keep dreaming... Unlike you, who's counted his chickens before they hatched, I actually have a plan."

He chuckled looked down and looked back up at me again with a mischievous glint in his blue eyes.

"Not to worry princess... I made plans of my own. You know what they say 'Idle hands are the devils workshop' "

He leaned past me and picked up the same tart I was eating a few minutes ago and his scent invaded my nostrils. It was the kind to make your mouth water and I ended up stepping back. He smirked and raised his brows at me and walked away.

Midway he stopped and looked.

"Princess?"

"Yeah?"

"You look absolutely divine tonight."

And with that he walked away.

Releasing a worried breath I grabbed a pig on a blanket and stuffed it in my mouth. The huge clock atop the hotel hall struck and a wave of frightening anxiety shot through me and made me choke on my sausage.

I turned towards the clock and visibly deflated when I saw that it was only eleven pm. A warm hand clasped on my shoulder and all the anxiety rushed back and I jumped and squeaked. The person who had touched me raised their arms away from me and chuckled slightly.

At the sound of the familiar chuckled the anxiety rolled off like water poured on a window. Donny stood before me with a beautiful smile and a black tux which made him look dashing.

I - finally - swallowed what was in my mouth and smiled uneasily. This entire evening I've been unnerved and constantly filled with doubt that I didn't realise that I really wanted to see him.

If this was truly going to be my last night with him I sure as hell want to have as much fun as possible.

"You okay?"

"I am now."

He chuckled and adjusted the sleeves of his jacket and then held out a hand to me.

"May I have this dance-"

He paused for a second before he looked back up and smiled.

"-Valeria O'Connol."

For a second there I was kind of scared of being called by my actual name but he didn't seem like he had any malicious intent towards it. It actually felt- nice. Smiling and placing my hand in his I stepped closer to him.

"You may."
