I returned his smile and awkwardly shook his hand, "Katherine."
He retracted his hand and cleaned it with some wipes, "Where are you heading?" I gave him my address and he communicated the information to the driver that entered the information in a state of the art GPS system.
I started feeling a bit self-conscious under his lingering gaze, "Could you stop staring at me please." He chuckled, "I'm very sorry, I don't mean to be rude. You just slightly resemble someone I know very well."
I rolled my eyes, I bet my only lung he's talking about Athena. I slightly resemble her now? She must've had more things done. It'd be wonderful if she could do just a bit more things to her face so we wouldn't look like each other at all.
I pretended to be puzzled, "Who?" He looked out the window in a slight daze, "She's the most beautiful woman I've ever laid eyes on. She has all that a proper man would want in a woman, the beauty, the body, the independence and the intelligence."
Ok now I'm genuinely confused. I'm pretty sure I look nothing like Mrs. Faux. "I look like your wife?" He chuckled, "She's not my wife, not yet at least."
Woah Woah Woah, hold up. He's having an affair?
I know curiosity killed the cat but I couldn't help but ask, "Are you having an affair?" The car stopped and the driver opened the door.
Mr. Faux smiled at me, "Have a wonderful night Miss Katherine." I thanked him and watched as the car sped down the road. He's cheating on Mrs. Faux and boldly discussed it with me even though he knew of my friendship with Dylan.
I stood under the shower and thoroughly washed the dirt, twigs and mud from my body. I'll talk with Dylan about it tomorrow.
I sat on my bed and ran the comb through my red hair. I could maybe talk to Hayley instead or maybe the both of them.
I picked at my food at the dinner table. But what if once I tell them it ruins everything and their family falls apart because of my nosiness.
I stared blankly at the television. But what if that's what he wants me to do, maybe he wants me to help him break his family apart by telling Dylan. Which means I absolutely should not say a word to them about it.
I groaned and pulled the pillow over my head. Why am I stressing over this?
****
I yawned as I dragged my tired body out of bed. As usual, morning comes way too early. I literally just went to sleep.
I tossed and turned the entire night. I just couldn't get Mr. Faux's affair and if whether I should tell Dylan and Hayley or not out of my head. I ventured downstairs and the house was quiet, too quiet.
Today was Sunday, meaning it's Grandma's weekly feel good day, where she annoys the hell out of me with old school Latin music from six in the morning right back until midnight.
I looked at the cow shaped clock in the kitchen as I drank water. It's ten in the morning, where in the world is she? As I was about to leave, my eyes caught a slip of paper on the counter. It was in Grandma's crappy handwriting. Give a crab a pen and it could've done a better job.
"I'm helping Jenky with his-" I paused and brought the paper closer to my face while squinting my eyes, "Garden. I'll return home by late evening."
I grinned, "She didn't leave any food, so I guess that means I can eat her share of the chocolate cake in the fridge." I licked my lips and continued reading. My smile instantly turned upside down, "P.S don't you dare touch my cake, you already ate your share. I left some money on the counter, buy something to eat with that."
I frowned as I took up the money from the counter, "This sucks."
I had nothing to do today so I laid across my couch scrolling through Netflix with my Grandma's forbidden cake in hand. I brought a fork full of it's chocolatey goodness to my mouth.
I'm sorry but I couldn't stop myself. I swear I didn't do it on purpose.
I innocently went to the fridge to get a glass of orange juice. I looked pass the chocolate cake that was beautifully decorated with chocolate cream, chocolate syrup and chocolate sprinkles. Just as I was about to close the fridge, it softly whispered my name.
Upon hearing my name I took up the beautifully designed transparent box and brought it closer to my face. My mouth drooled as the cake whispered sweet nothings in my ear. I couldn't hold back any longer and without much fight I gave into the temptation and here I am now.
I know you probably don't believe me but it's the truth.
Grandma is going to be so pissed but I have a plan. I'll apologize multiple times then offer to make it up to her by giving her a beautiful and delicious chocolate cake I baked myself.
I took the cake mix from the cupboard.
I've never cooked anything or baked anything before but how hard could it be? I looked at the back of the box while scratching my neck, "Looks simple enough."
I scratched my arm where four dark red spots were. I groaned as I harshly scratched at my arm and neck, "Those damn mosquitos."
I wrote down the ingredients from the back of the box on a piece of paper and walked around the kitchen checking each cupboard. Whatever I don't have I'll just replace it, I don't have enough energy to go to the supermarket.
Alright, first on the list is butter. I scanned each cupboard and shelf for butter, there wasn't any so I replaced it with oil. They're basically the same when it comes to cooking right?
I went in the fridge hoping to find 3 eggs but sadly there was none.
I stood in the backyard and stared up into the old pine tree. The chicken hawk's eyes instantly met mine the minute I looked up. I took up the rake that leant on the side of the house and pointed it at the bird, "Give me the eggs and no one gets hurt."
