21 Paparazzi

When Josh returned at home, he was surprised to find the press waiting outside.

"Did you see the two women who melted the guns of the two police officers?" One of them asked Josh. Several microphones were being jabbed at his mouth.

He blushed at the question—he was trying to push his way through the doorstep, and said, "That's not true." Then, he knocked on their door, then, faced the press again. "Maybe those two cops have wild imaginations."

The press laughed.

Josh was himself amused at the reception of the press, so he asked them a question. "Have you checked on the mental fitness issue?"

"Nooo!" They shouted.

I'm safe at this point, Josh thought. The press were uncontrollable as they asked each other whether the police were mentally fit, quoting who and when, so Josh sneaked past them, opened the door, and closed. Isabella was inside—Zen, baby Michael, Dante, Ellie, and Eleanor.

"Are you okay?" Isabella asked Josh.

Josh nodded his head. He took a deep breath, then, went to his bedroom right away. He was thinking.

Aaron learned about the paparazzi getting interested at the oddity story and about Josh answering their questions.

"That was smart," he told him during dinner.

"Only because they missed on something," Josh said.

"What did they miss?"

"If the police officers were mentally fit—and posting substitutes."

"Maybe they're too busy—our case is not a priority."

It was absurd, Josh thought, not to consider their case a priority his facial expression said it all.

"Our police force is undermanned, I was told," Aaron suggested. He was looking at his boy, who was now a man. "I missed you during the meeting. Where were you?"

"I signed a leave."

"Yes, I got it." Aaron was quiet during the dinner. He was probably tired, or it was probably because he knew what Josh was into. He knew his son. There was a knock on the door. It was Jan and Fr. Robert, Evan, and Yuri.

Evan and Yuri were curious at what went on the last time. They heard things that's why. They learned about the paparazzi, Josh told them. Weren't they present during those trances and witnesses to the appearances of the specter at the big house?

Suddenly, their pets were barking and meowing, looking at the wall.

No one knew, but they were looking at Hugh and Andrea, who were listening to their conversation. Good the hags weren't around.
