Chapter 4: The griffin messenger

Caspian's POV

I lied back on the chair as I massage the bridge of my nose. I was about to sleep when I heard something banging on the window. It was a griffin with a collar on its neck. I stood up and opened the window to let it in. As soon as it went in, it gestured itself as bowing to me. It was odd already to see a griffin flying here since they went in seclusion now it bowed at me. What is going on this day.

I noticed that its collar had a symbol on it. I went closer to check it and to my surprise, it had a crossed scythe on it. The Preacurin. It came from the Preacurin? I didn't know they own such creature more importantly, how did they manage to keep one. I shook that thought when I saw a scroll on its collar as well. I took it and red it.

"Prince Caspian! You seemed to visiting less in our kingdom, I bet something urgent is came up there. I came to send you this letter to let you know that someone from my kingdom will be visiting you there soon. Remember the other brother I told you about. The one that hasn't came home for 3 years. Someone reported that there are traces of him in your kingdom. I will send someone over to confirm it and if he does, we wish to retrieve him there. Sorry to bother at this moment.

-Prince Sean Travis Frost"

As I red the letter I was relieved to see that they're family is soon going to be complete. I can't wait to meet his brother and another sibling of his. So I only met three of them when there are five to be exact. I looked at the griffin who seemed to be roaming its eyes around the room. I was about to talk to it when someone opened the door. It was Cassandra with Tryce. The moment they entered, the dog seemed surprise to see the griffin while the griffin itself seemed enthusiastic as its tail keeps on waging. Tryce looked panic and started running away while the griffin followed him.

They chased each other while turning the castle into a mess, because of it, its caught more attention and I asked someone to stop them.

"Goodness what happened here?!" Mother asked in surprise.

"Sorry mom. I'll handle this. I'll explain everything later when everything is settled." I explained as I chase them down.

"Tryce! Come here!" Someone outside shouted. It was Vincent, Clayton's childhood friend. Tryce ran over to him and hid behind while the griffin was following him, it stopped at front as soon as it saw him.

"There there. You'll play with him soon. Just wait a little longer okay." He said calmly as he rubbed the griffin's beak. He laid his head over the griffin and closed it's eyes. the griffin did the same and moments later it calmed down. I was amazed at what I just saw.

When things were settled, the people slowly cleaned up the palace as we guided the griffin out. Well more likely it was Vincent was the one who took it out. I followed them and I saw Cora, Clayton and father who just arrived from the training ground of where the new guards who were hired at. They were surprised to see what happened.

"What happened here? And what is this? How did a griffin came here in town? I thought they were hiding from humans." Clayton exclaimed. Father and Cora was shocked to speak as well.

"Oh its a long story and I think its partly my fault as well. You see..." I started explaining to them what had happened. Things are finally settled and Vincent volunteered to take the griffin with him.

"I'll take the griffin with me. I'll send it home tomorrow after I feed it." I wanted to refuse because I wanted to keep the griffin and study it for a short moment but maybe not right now. Soon as things are settled.

"Well, I guess that's a better option since you manage to tame it and it looks like its listening to you. But how do you know so much about griffins?" Cora asked. Come to think of it, while I was explaining to them about what was happening, the griffin was behaving itself and somehow it was only listening to what Vincent said and refuse to listen to anyone else.

"Oh ah well, my older siblings used to happen to raise one before. They found a baby griffin egg and bought it home to raise it. We set it free when it was old enough, so this must be the one, hehe." He explained nervously. I forgot to mention to them that this griffin was from Preacurin that it made it odd for someone who raised it since it was young and is now a property of the Preacurin. And how sure was he that this was the griffin they once raise? It was strange so I didn't tell them and let them go.

"Okay but you have to let it go soon, we don't want anyone else to know that there's a griffin in town and might cause a ruckus. But how are you going to take it with you without anyone noticing it?" I asked. They all looked at Vincent who seemed to be seating from being so nervous.

"Oh my carriage is nearby so I'll hide her there." He explained. Her? How does he know it's a girl?

"Her? How did you know it's a girl?" Clayton asked. Did he just red my mind just now?

"Oh I did tell you that we once raised a griffin and that griffin was a girl so its a her. And also female griffins are smaller than male ones." He explained. Well I've never really seen a griffin in real life before so I can't tell if what he said is true. for now, we'll believe him.

"Okay then, You better head home now it's getting darker already." My father ordered. Vincent bowed and took the griffin to his carriage and left. I didn't want to alarm anyone so I kept things to myself about my observations on this griffin and Vincent. We headed inside and helped with the few messes and had dinner after that.

Vincent's POV

As soon as we arrived to our farm, I led this annoying griffin to my room and locked the door. I don't mind my family knowing this caused they are aware of everything already but someone might come in and might report this. I turned around and saw that she had completely change back.

"Well you're lucky your brother told me you were coming. And what were you doing? Causing a mess in their home. May I remind you that your kingdom and theirs had a huge gap of a difference." I scolded her. She smiled at me and scratched her head.

"Sorry, I was just so happy to see him." She exclaimed. I guess blood is thicker than water. She was able to know who it was even in that form.

"You owe me big time now missy. There's a price to pay." I said handing my hand over like asking for payment.

"Yeah yeah, so what do you want?" She asked.

"Teach me th---" I was caught of when my book lit up and was shaking. Who could it be? I went closer and answered the call. It's a communication book. Since a communication stone is a one time use and is a waste of money, and we haven't learned a communication spell yet, so we use a communication book instead to contact each other. When I answered, it was my older brother, Gilbert.

"Gilbert, what's brings you to call me?" I asked. I sawed him frowned then signed.

"What kind of lie did you just told the King? We raised a griffin once? Then set it free? You're lucky they believed that. And if time comes when they found out we lied, I don't think it will only be our tongues he's going to cut." Gilbert exclaimed.

"Well what else was I supposed to say? That the prince of another kingdom sent a shape-shifting freak to our kingdom to search for someone and that they were our friends as well. You think of the possibilities of what might happen if I did." I replied. I mean I know it's a big offence to lie to the royal family especially when they put their whole trust on everyone on the kingdom, but hey, a white lie wouldn't hurt right?

"Whatever. Just make sure you sent her home by dawn before Prince Caspian gets there." He warned us.

"The prince? Why would he come here?" The shape-shifting griffin questioned. True, why would he come to us? Is it about the griffin? Did he sense something? I forgot that royalties had magic.

"Well I used a min reading spell on him and he felt that something was odd with your lie. He knew that she came from Preacurin and you know he's friends with them." He told us. Oh dang, I forgot about that. "Anyways, make sure she leaves immediately before he gets there. I'll be off now, their looking for me." And with that the call ended. I gotta get her out of here. I looked at her as she seemed to be seriously thinking as well.

"Let's do what he said. It's better you leave at dawn. It's dangerous if you leave now, There are guards roaming around at night here as well. And I don't want to get an earful if your brother found out that I sent you back at night." I said. She nodded. I told her she sleep in my bed while I sleep in the floor. As I was thinking of what could happen tomorrow, I slept with endless train of thoughts to bed.
