Chapter 76 - Daughters of Darkness

Laci stared at the dead squirrel, her brows furrowed. “You’re crazy.”

Nazareth took a sip of whiskey from his flask, then shrugged as he twisted the cap back in place. “I’m not asking you to make it talk, just bring it back to life. You’re a necromancer. This should be easy.”

“You keep saying that, and yet, it’s far from easy.” Laci sighed as she stared at the squirrel again. “Where did you even get a dead squirrel?”

Nazareth gave a snort of derision. “Have you seen the people drive around here? The little buggers never stand a chance. I think some drivers aim for the poor little creatures as if it’s a sport or something.” He shook his head. “Disgusting, really.”

“What is it you’re expecting me to discover by doing this?” she asked. “Squirrels don’t talk, so it’s not like I can carry on a conversation with it.”

Nazareth cocked an eyebrow at her, one corner of his mouth down-turned. “There are other ways of communicating, you know? Don’t you have any imagination at all?”
