Chapter 60: Present Day

My heart pounded. Inhaling and exhaling as deeply as possible, I tried to maintain my composure and not have a full-blown panic attack. In an attempt to mitigate onlookers and lessen our noticeability, I moved to the side of the room with Davis close behind me.

I'd waited years for this moment. I wanted to scream at him, demand answers, tell him so many things. "Why are you here, Davis?" I sniffled, continuously blotting at my eyes to keep the tears from falling.

He pushed his glasses up his nose, the wire frames now highlighting the milky-jade color of his eyes. "I saw you on The Morning Show, and I wanted to see you."

I struggled to find the words to get the answers I needed without being disrespectful. Instead, I decided parroting worked just as well. "You saw the show and wanted to see me?" My brow furrowed, and my tone indicated my inability to comprehend that as an explanation.
