Ethan hugged her tight, and promised her one thing, that he'd never judge her, her liking to be in guys' company was something he'd never comment on again. Yet now, in that moment, it had accidentally slipped out of his mouth. She'd never been hurt by anyone's assumptions about her so much before, but this was her boyfriend, if even he thought of her that way, then there was just nothing she could do.
Linda had been standing by, and watching the scene, she ran after Leah, her life had been hell, she'd been blackmailed by Mindy, and so she'd stood by her. Right now though, she couldn't care less about the bitch, all she wanted was to comfort her twin. Linda knew how much Leah had struggled with these comments about her. She ran and ran until she caught up to her. Leah was running on the road, Linda was worried she'd step in front of a car, or something, therefore, she yelled, "You won't run away if you're strong." Leah's mind stopped whirring, all the noise stopped, her breath came back to her, bringing her soul with it. The voice she wanted to hear the most was calling after her. She turned around to embrace Linda and finally , she felt like one weight was lifted off her shoulders, Linda had cut off contact with her, completely, and she'd thought it was because Linda hated Leah for taking the place of Head Girl. She hugged Linda until Linda squealed a little. And after she let go, they sat on the roadside. Like crazy people, they were crying and laughing at the same time, "I'm so sorry, Linnie, I didn't know you wanted the Head Girl place so bad, on top of that, I messed up on the tryouts, obviously, you wanted the centre, it is just that in my quest of finding a stronger me, I tried to get everything, but having everything isn't enjoyable at all. It's super difficult." Linda began with her account of the story, and realised that yeah, she'd been a little mad at Leah, Leah had suddenly become so popular, she was a little insecure and intimated, so at first, she did join Mindy's group because she was mad at Leah, but she didn't know the girl was the devil herself. She'd never seen such a scheming person in her life, and really, she wanted to cut ties with her but she just couldn't, Linnie was on a frenzy, explaining away when Leah said, not exactly interrupting her, but anyways, "I missed you a lot." Linda stopped with her explanations, and just leaned back.
The sisters reconciled, but what Leah didn't know was that there were a lot of things that had happened, I mean a 'deal with the devil' gets you into a lot of trouble.
She didn't cry that night, she wanted to, but the tears just wouldn't come out, maybe it was because subconsciously, she understood why Ethan did what he did, it was like being scored for a test you knew you did bad on, you can't possibly complain, since, technically, your grade is just what you deserve, even so, she felt a lot of things, but weak wasn't one of them, she had basically given him up, and so had he, wasn't that what she had wanted, could she finally love herself, or would she keep being a wreck?
Without realising it, the hardships that she'd faced in the past, the bullying, the living in hell but surviving each day, it made her stronger and harder-to-break, and better, she'd grown and growth always comes with some pain. Also, Linda moved back into her room. She was unaware of what happened at the dance after she left, and honestly, you know what, she didn't even care, this whole time, she'd been worrying about something else, she'd gone to get a check-up from Gramps with Ethan before the dance, she wanted to pull out from the treatment plan, she didn't want to run into Ethan or remember how he helped her only to push her to the edge in the end, she just wanted to recover quickly, and this time she was going to do it for herself. Because, after suffering so much and being unhappy, she'd not gotten anywhere, this was her life and only she could set it right, therefore, she decided to take this summer and make it the best of her life. She pulled out from the treatment plan, and even though Gramps tried to persuade her not to , she didn't listen.
She drove to the hospital early in the morning, and she'd still not heard anything from Ethan. She walked into the hospital, and all the memories of their meeting again revived themselves, with each step to Gramps' office, she relived 'their' moments, feeling the emotions but not affected by them. She knew that she couldn't drop to the ground and beg for forgiveness. The one she'd really wronged here wasn't just Ethan. That's surprising because we usually don't ever apologise to ourselves, no wait, I don't think we ever apologise to ourselves, when we make a mistake and we accidentally harm someone else, even a slight bump against elbows, we say things like, 'I apologise', 'Pardon me', 'Excuse me', 'It won't happen again' etc. Our apologies and their forms know no end, yet when it comes to being kind to ourselves, we automatically take a step back. Because that is what we've been taught, that is exactly what we see people around us doing, the people that shape our perspectives, our mother, and our father, slaving away, and never apologising for ignoring their own selves. Yet, something it Leah was about to change, the change wasn't going to be noticeable immediately, but time would bring all answers that she'd ever wanted. She'd wanted to be as happy as someone else, yet time would teach her, that there is unlimited happiness within her own self. But just like ever great lesson isn't learnt in seconds, similarly, she'd go through a process of change, but the end would be really worth it.
Ethan, on the other hand-- he felt broken, he'd come back to make Leah his, now he'd heard her say that she was scared of him, something that he'd longed not to hear... ever, why exactly he had done what he did was a little confusing to him. Why had he reacted that way? Why had she? Couldn't she have been a little understanding, she was scared away after seeing that dark side of him, how could he believe that she loved him. And so his mind was filled with a mess that he didn't want to clean ,and his heart was broken, in pieces, millions of little pieces, he didn't want to put them back together, he just wanted to make her feel the same way. He'd offered to die for her, with her, and changed himself so much, why had he done all that if she was still going to run from him. His heart hurt a lot, and all he knew was that he hated her too. He hated the girl he loved.
