Making A Bed

Seeing that I had nowhere near the amount of RP I needed, I began brainstorming on what to do in order to get RP only to come up blank. Thankfully though the second that I entered my home I was immediately reminded that we didn't have beds yet. And although I knew that making beds for everyone was not guaranteed to give me any RP it was still worth a shot.

Since it was still daytime, I decided to mainly focus on collecting leaves as those would be the main material used to make the beds. Why leaves, well, they were the only remotely soft thing I could get my hands on. And while I had originally planned to get everyone to help me collect leaves, overworking them would only work against me, plus they still had to get the seeds ready before the end of the day.

Everything went as expected except for the fact that collecting leaves that were somewhat soft, long, and not poisonous was rather tedious. To my surprise though, 20 minutes into my leaf collecting Omar came up to me holding a ton of leaves like the ones I had in my hand and passed them over to me.

From what I could guess he probably saw me collecting leaves and decided to help which was rather nice of him. After that, I just decided to let him help me for the rest of the 40 minutes I had making it so that I could increase the rate at which I collected leaves by 30% (Omar was not very good at collecting leaves).

Once the time ran out I could see that we had managed to collect what looked to be enough leaves to make about three beds, that would only be confirmed after I made one though. Regarding why I had to stop after only an hour it was because as I mentioned before I still had to teach everyone how to get the seeds ready to begin sprouting.

And although I did have to teach everyone how to get all three different types of seeds to sprout, the only one they had a hard time with was the avocado seed. This mainly because unlike the coconuts that just had to be filled into a box full of river water and kept underwater by a piece of wood on top of them with rocks pushing it down, or the orange seeds that just had to be put in a tray with a small layer of watered dirt, the avocado seeds needed to be slightly forced into the sides without going too far through.

From there I decided to leave them to do that until the end of the day. As for what I would do, I would stop collecting leaves and work on making the beds one by one. That way I would be able to not waste time collecting more materials than I needed.

The mattress itself was basically just going to follow the basis of a normal group of piled-up leaves as those seemed to be the ones everyone else preferred to sleep on most. The only difference being that the bunched-up leaves will be surrounded by wood so that it keeps a rectangular shape with the exact measurements being 7ft by 10ft.

As for the 'blanket', it would just be made out of very tightly woven leaves to make it so that they would insulate as much heat as possible. As for the pillow, it would basically just be a ton of leaves bunched up and surrounded by vines covering them entirely so that only the vines could felt when you lay your head on it.

All in all, although it was certainly somewhat boring I was able to get through most of the work rather quickly only having to slow down once I had finished the first 'matress' and 'pillow' because I had to take my time making sure that the 'blanket' was made correctly. It was actually a very nice change of pace from the usual connecting and constructing, feeling more like just arts and crafts.

When I was getting halfway through the 'blanket' though I could feel someone staring at me, so eventually curiosity got the better of me and I decided to look up, and to my surprise, Omar was staying at what I was doing right next to me. And seeing how close he was I subconsciously jumped back.

Once I was able to calm down again though I could see that he seemed really interested in what I was doing, which I found odd as I had already taught him how to do so beforehand. Thinking about it a little more though, I realized that he probably wanted to join in and help me as he did with the leaves beforehand and that he just didn't know how to go about it.

So I decided to just move the pile of leaves I was using over to where he was and showing him how to start the 'blanket' before passing it over to him and going back to what I was doing. I knew that he already had the basic knowledge and although I was almost certain that he wouldn't be able to make a passable 'blanket, the only way for him to get better would be practicing.

From there I just continued with what I was doing until I finished my blanket just in time to realize that the sun was coming down and that Omar was missing. At first, I was slightly disappointed that he had given up on making a 'blanket' but couldn't blame him as it was rather boring. When I was getting ready to turn back to the settlement though, I saw that he was coming back with a cup and a very disproportionate leaf 'blanket'.

I just shook my head and made a mental note to be a little more optimistic next time before walking towards him to examine his 'blanket' more thoroughly and see if it could be fixed. Before I could though he just extended out his full cup of boiled water (the cup was warm).

I took it with a smile and drank it before taking a look at his blanket only to notice that there was no way to fix it without disassembling almost the whole thing. And since it was already going to be nighttime anyway I just decide to call it a day, plus after everything I wasn't exactly looking forward to criticizing the 'blanket' Omar made in front of him and make him fix it.
