Marcus lay under the shade of the tree and was seconds from dozing off when he heard footsteps. More than one. His first thought was that he'd been caught. The guards had finally found him and would take him to their facilities. Maybe plug some sort of suction tube machine to his head and absorb his powers. Just like he had seen on television. And strangely all he could think was, "About time they found me."
One minute he was laying under the tree and the other second he sprinted over to the sound of footsteps. Fortunately they weren't far away. When reaching the strangers he screamed on the top of his lungs, hands in a wide embrace and eyes clenched tight. "TAKE ME," he yelled.
After no response from the people in front of him he opened one eye to observe the strangers in front of him. He looked deflated. They were kids. Not the guards he had hoped to show up. Two girls and one boy. The girls wearing almost identical clothes and the boy looked just a few younger than him. They all did. All of them exchanged curious glances with each other before sharing a look of confirmation nodding at each other.
"Something tells me you kids aren't going to take me,' Marcus sighed. He made a gesture shooing them away, "Go away just leave me to wallow in my sadness, maybe another day though." His honey colored eyes now suddenly more interested in looking at the ground then the three teenagers in front of him.
The boy looked at him like he was crazy. A look Marcus was accustomed to. One of the girls then spoke up. "Actually we are here to take you," she stated. Marcus looked at her, his eyes alight with joy.
"But not for the reasons you think," she concluded.
"What reasons?" Marcus asked confused.
"We three actually kind of have powers like you," the other girl told him.
Marcus looked at them with sympathy. Although they were only some years younger than him they were just kids. And no kid had to endure such a pain from the virus to only get cursed with powers just to get hunted down. But he was still skeptical.
"Prove it," he demanded, "Prove me that you have powers."
"But before that I need names," he concluded.
"Stella," the brunette replied. The sage eyed girl then said, "Isabelle" and finally the boy also replied with his name, "Alexander."
"I'm Marcus and now please proceed to demonstrate your magic," he declared.
Stella went first. One minute she stood beside Marcus and the next she was gone, appearing seconds later, ten feet away from him. He couldn't lie about the fact that was truly impressive but Marcus didn't let it show. He just nodded his head solemnly when she appeared back to her previous position. Next was Alexander. He clenched his fists tightly and closed his eyes, concentrating but nothing happened. His eyes were tightly shut, and his face almost beetroot red from the strain.
"Kid if you're having constipation right now I can give you some pills to help with it," Marcus laughed. Alexander only glared in response and Marcus noticed something. The kid's hands were on fire. Literal fire. Bright red flames engulfing his fists.
"Okay you all can stop now I get it, you're magical," Marcus exclaimed in fear.
"But I didn't get my turn," Isabelle whined.
"How about we get some soda and cool off, my treat," Marcus said with a grin. The trio once again looked at each other with contemplating looks.
"I could go for a drink," Isabelle shrugged.
