The sound of rifle fire ripped through the night. Miles pressed deep down in a ditch, his rifle gripped firmly in his hand. He could feel his heart pounding in his ears as the night lit up with the explosions from the enemy’s fire, dirt flew into the air all around him, as the cries of his fellow soldiers filled the night. They shouldn’t have been there. They should have been in Pyongyang, celebrating their victory over the North Koreans. Damn him and his sense of helping the righteous of the world and their causes. He should be safe back in the States or bouncing around the Caribbean. Why did he get himself involved in this mess?
