Chapter 25: Drinking Party
"So they were last seen entering the woods due to an unfortunate event?" [Edge]
"Yes *Guh* " [Calli]
Calli casually replied to my question and took a sip.
"I thought Miko told you everything? " [Calli]
"I was drunk, I might have missed some bits and pieces" [Edge]
"Okay let me summarise it for you so that you can understand. Runaway princess kidnapped earlier than promised and then entered Elven property so it escalated to war." [Calli]
"Ok the first part, why does she want to run away?" [Edge]
"Miko told me that she said she's bored and feels that she's rotting away in the castle only to grow older and older. She wanted to run away from her responsibilities and seek adventure." [Calli]
"That's unfortunate..., I heard she's a prodigy from birth, Started to talk when she's 0 years old. Maybe it's her age... I think that might have caused her to run away." [Edge]
"Really? We made a full circle now and we're back to talking about a woman's age again?" [Calli]
"Well I mean she's 34 and unmarried, she probably had a hard time finding a match that could match her standards?"[Edge]
"WHAT'S WRONG FOR A WOMAN TO BE A LITTLE BIT OLD!!?" [Calli]
Calli snapped suddenly and spilled some wine on the floor.
"Are you drunk Calli? I'm sorry let's not expand this topic any further." [Edge]
"Good" [Calli]
Maybe it's the alcohol that made me couldn't contain my curiosity or my mouth. Thus, I blurted a deadly question.
"Calli, Soooo.. how old are yo-" [Edge]
Then I forgot what happened on the first night, Calli only told me that I blacked out and that we're out of red Wine. White Wine is the next category we are going to try out on the second day.
"So how does it taste?"[Calli]
"Much sweeter, I like it."[Edge]
I downed the whole glass trying to mimic How Calli does it.
"Remember to hydrate yourself or you will be in a world of pain."[Calli]
"But I never saw you drink any water while drinking wine." [Edge]
"I have a higher tolerance than you do *Guh* " [Calii]
Calli immediately took another sip after finishing her words.
"So I assume that you approve of me drinking water?"[Edge]
"Yes I hereby approve of you to drink that tank of water"[Calli]
Calli pointed towards a barrel of water at the corner of the room.
"Just be careful not to puke in it, I got it from our old store owner yesterday and it's clean"[Calli]
Thoughts began running through my mind from her statement.
"Let me guess, Is the food or water here unsanitary?"[Edge]
"No, but there's a gift that takes effect once you ingest any of the food or water here that is contaminated by his or her mana. As for the effect, you can see it for yourself once you took it." [Calli]
" *Glup* alright I'll follow whatever you say." [Edge]
I began drinking the water in the barrel in order to rehydrate myself but at night i still ended up having headaches and puking profusely in the washroom. In the end, I ended up sleeping in the toilet holding a wine bottle filled with the water from the barrel. I woke up in the afternoon of the third day and Calli already started without me.
"Today's pick would be rose wine!!!"[Calli]
Calli talked in a cutesy tone that filled with excitement. Maybe she is waiting for me to join her.
"Sorry I'm late, I slept in the toilet..."[Edge]
"It's fine, I might have pushed you too hard for the past 2 days" [Calli]
"I'll have my breakfast pill and join you afterward."
I took out a moderate-sized pill and swallowed it with water. It's an emergency ration used by the Yamato military to ensure consumption but reducing the weight of transportation. It's not a long-term solution to not eating food but at least it could let me hold on without food for 2 weeks for no problem.
"You're a warrior, you should be able to fast for a month, why do you need to take it?" [Calli]
Calli sort of spoken it in a teasing tone.
"Well, that was the case until I puked all my innards out Calli !!" [Edge]
I'm not mad but I was annoyed that she had to state the obvious.
"Don't be grumpy, there's nothing no alcohol couldn't solve, if there's one you're just not having enough." [Calli]
Calli poured the pink colored wine into the glass and handed it to me. I accepted her glass and took a small sip to learn its taste.
"This one tastes like fruits and flowers, I like it." [Edge]
"You should have learned your lesson this time. You should be able to control your pace and know when to stop by now." [Calli]
"Yes, I was caught off guard but not this time around." [Edge]
I managed to stay up for the whole night just to finish drinking until we finished the last bottle of rose wine we had. Continuing where we left off, I brought in the rest of the wine we had.
"Champagne, let's set a party mood " [Calli]
Calli began beatboxing and rapping. It was a cool sight to behold and her bars were on fire. Midnight approaches and we're down to our last bottle.
"You got drunk from drinking Champagne? Your weakness disgusts me." [Calli]
"Shut up, everything from yesterday accumulated until now are all in my veins. It's normal to feel a little drowsy." [Edge]
I slurred a little as I spoke but I felt awfully calm despite being really drunk. Calli looked at my haggard appearance and opened her mouth.
"A gift, did you have one for me?" [Calli]
My head is now rested on the table and I could feel my face heating up from the alcohol. I opened my closed eyes and looked at her. She was calm with a tinge of red on her face.
"No, I didn't prepare any gifts." [Edge]
"Why? You even when through with the birthday celebration so why not go all in" [Calli]
Without restraint, I began running my mouth.
"You can't die can't you?"[Edge]
"...."[Calli]
"I knew it. That's even more of the reason I shouldn't give you one."[Edge]
"Care to explain?" [Calli]
"How much of a mark do you leave behind in this world Calli?" [Edge]
"...."[Calli]
"I observed the way you walk Calli, you don't leave behind traces there are no footprints in the snow that you stepped on. Why? Because you're afraid to leave even the slightest mark on this world."[Edge]
"I couldn't understand in the beginning but after knowing you I too am afraid of leaving my mark on you." [Edge]
"Is that the real reason why you gave away the Kazoo?"[Calli]
"Maybe? I don't know, but knowing that you outlive me and I might live in you and maybe in result hurting you as time passes scares me."[Edge]
At last, I told her what I wanted to tell her the most.
"I don't want to leave behind a gift that will haunt you the rest of your eternity..."[Edge]
I straight fell asleep after ending my speech.
Calli gently strokes Edge's hair and kissed his forehead.
"Such a sweet boy, afraid of hurting or being hurt. But thanks to you, it wouldn't sound too bad to be haunted by these wonderful gifts you gave me." [Calli]
Calli looked around the room and recalled the past 4 days. She let off a gentle smile, reminiscent of what they did. She slaps both her cheeks and spoke.
"Maybe I'm getting a little tipsy as well *Guh* " [Calli]
Calli downed her glass and called it a night.
