Chapter 9
“Did you hear the news?”
A group of women gathers in the hallway while talking.
“I knew it! Ivana and Brick is a real deal!
I just cringed at what I heard.
I stand against the wall while pretending that I am busy sorting my notes.
“Yes! They were close since freshmen, my sister said because she is one of their classmates, also you know Andre?” A blonde girl murmured.
“Yes! Oh my gosh! I am head over heels with that hottie!” another flirty one answered.
“Did you know that Andre has a huge crush on his best friend?”
“Who?”
“Who else would it be? Of course Ivana! But since Brick came, it seems his chance drop down because she is into Brick already!”
“I would die for Andre! But Brick is also an Alpha male so I envy Ivana!”
I'm a little hurt by what I'm hearing! Didn’t they know Brick had a girlfriend! Annoying.
“But I thought Brick has a girlfriend? She is a freshman as the rumor said”
I blushed a little and was suddenly taken aback when a woman suddenly spoke about me.
I cover myself with my book and continue to listen to what they are saying.
“Really? I didn’t know that, oh I heard once that said, she was just someone whom he knew back from their town”
I was suddenly swallowed up by what I heard and seemed to want to correct this irritating girl!
“I saw her once, she is so ordinary, I will never believe that Brick will fall for someone like her!”
“What is her name?” another one asked
She is annoying! I suddenly get hotheaded with this girl when she and another person suddenly called out my name!
“Glimm!!”
“What the hell” I pout.
They were startled and suddenly looked at me.
It was Andre, of course!
When Andrei approached, the girls suddenly straightened up and seemed to seek his attention, they did not even bother to feel guilty about what they have been saying about me.
“Why are you here?”
“Why not? I remember we are friends” he said.
We started walking and I heard another rude whisper from them but I already ignore it this time.
“Did you know that those girls like you and the fact that they have seen me with you, I am sure that they are now writing my name on their watch list” I gushed.
“I know you won’t care anyway” he grinned.
“ I overheard that you have a huge crush on your best friend?” I am nosy this time but I can’t help myself. He looks at me with an annoyed face.
“If you are going to listen to every rumor here in our University, I swear, you won’t make it out here!” he exclaimed.
His right. Rumors are hearsays.
“Oh by the way before I forgot, someone asks me to give this to you”
“Huh? What is this, a love letter?” I joked. It was a folded small note.
“April 04, 2020? You are beautiful”
I am a bit confused but the date makes me suddenly dizzy that I can’t help my hand to ask for support from Andre’s back.
“Are you okay? What is it?” Andre
“Yeah, I am okay, I just felt light-headed”
“What is up with the note?”
“I don’t know, just a date written with a compliment, who gave this?”
“A man, well maybe just a little older than us, he wears an oversized hoodie, I did not pay any attention actually”
“Oh!”
“Is there anything else?”
“None, he just said that I should give it to you”
“Wait, how did he know that I knew you?”
“No idea? Well, maybe it’s just a coincidence?” he assured.
“How odd!” I’m getting the uneasy vibe.
“Don’t think too much, maybe he is just one of your admirer”
“Really? I just don’t get the vibe of putting an old date, like it is weird”
“Here we are, so what do you think later? Should we grab some steak again?”
“No! I was asked by Ms. Benjamin to help her checked the test paper tonight”
“Really? I was asked by Ms. Benjamin yesterday since she was our literature, I should have said yes!”
“Maybe on weekend”
“Okay, so see you then”
“Yes, bye!”
As I entered the room, I saw Kayen leaning back in her chair.
I poke her head. “Hey!”
“You’re late Glimm!”
“Where is the professor?”
“He went out, he said he needs to get something”
“Saved!”
“So are you going to Ms. Benjamin’s apartment later?”
“Yeah, do I have a choice?”
“None” she replied.
“Why do you look so lethargic?”
“I sleep late because I finished the two-page essay about the importance of studying psychology and I am exhausted”
“Oh my poor Kayen, finally you are making your homework already, I am proud of you” I give her some baby talk but she pushes me and she was annoyed. I laugh so hard, she hates it.
“By the way, Keall and I are going to the house party tonight so if ever you finished a bit late, we will just pass you by”
“Okay no problem, I will text you once we are done”
It is past 7 when I got to Ms. Benjamin’s house and I don’t know why I am seeing Brick’s car here outside the apartment?
Did Ivana live in this area?
Oh no! You don’t have to know Glimm.
I knock on the door.
“Come in” Ms. Benjamin shouted, she seems really busy.
“Coming”
Why do I feel a bit nervous, my heart is beating strange
There was a small hallway before it leads me to her living area and it gives me a panic attack when I saw Brick busy checking the test paper.
My hands suddenly turn cold.
“Hey Ms. Andrew, is there a ghost here”
Brick doesn’t even bother to look in my direction.
I look down and fix my messy hair.
“No Ms. Benjamin, I just thought I was the only one going here”
“Oh sorry, I have to ask Brick because it’s his punishment from his behavior last class”
“Oh,” I fake a surprise.
“Where is the test papers Ms. Benjamin so I can start and finish early”
“Oh, there it is” and as Ms. Benjamin point to the side, I almost fall to my knees as I saw many test papers piled up.
I had a glimpse of his reaction, he almost smiled from my reaction because literally I was really surprised seeing so many papers to check.
“Feel at home Glimm, I’m just cooking our dinner for tonight” she happily said.
I get a few bundles of the test paper and sit in the corner, far away from Brick. I can’t get distracted.
It feels so strange to be an absolute stranger to someone who used to be your world.
I took a deep breath.
