Safety For a Time

After another face scrub, Miriam left the bathroom to find Gus sitting on the only bed in the room. He'd taken off his tie and sat with his sleeves rolled up to his elbow, her laptop open.

"What are you doing?"

"I'm trying to contact a friend of mine, who lives in State College."

"You could have asked," she admonished sitting on the edge of the bed.

"Think of it as commandeering your computer. By the way, your passwords are too obvious," he said.

She shrugged. "It's not as if I'm keeping government secrets in there."

"Still, anyone could get your financial records if they got this computer."

"True, but who would want them?"

"Anyone can want to steal from anyone. When I'm done, redo your passwords to something so obscure not even your mother would know about. We've already had this conversation."

"Fine," she sighed and heard a knock on the door.

Gus slid off the bed and motioned her into the bathroom. When he let her out he had a slice of pizza in hand. "Dig in, it's good."
