On The Move

Miriam looked up, bleary-eyed, at Agent Callager and wondered how long she'd been working. "Fine, let me save this."

"Now," he said firmly.

She shook her hand and the look on his face told her most people responded to his commands the first time. "I'm not losing the work I've done. It's my career on the line."

"And it's your life on the line for this meeting."

She eyed him as she clicked all the necessary buttons to save her file. He stood clenching his hands and teeth and she smiled back at him. She wouldn't have a life if she didn't have a business to go back to when all this was done.

"You need me more than I need you," she pointed out. "Besides, I'm probably safe here."

He looked to her as if he couldn't argue. "You're keeping some very important people waiting."

Miriam closed the computer case and stood. "Well, I'm ready."
