Miriam turned to see Gus in the doorway to the bedroom.
Without thinking she sought his arms. He quickly enveloped her, as if he didn't expect any other reaction from her.
"Bob's gone," he informed her.
"Is he mad?"
"No. Just surprised. He didn't realize he'd have the Secret Service at his wedding."
Miriam let him go and looked into his deep, brown eyes. "Did he ask her?"
Gus smiled. "This afternoon. That's what he was doing when I called. Apparently she said a quick, 'Yes,' and pushed him out the door to get you."
She rushed back to the phone. "I better call her."
She glanced over her shoulder to see Gus grinning at her. "What? She's my best friend and she's getting married."
"And you're the veep's daughter and everyone in the free world knows. I'm glad you have your priorities straight, Mim."
She shrugged and dialed Bob's number. "Nothing has changed."
