Gus answered in the affirmative before Miriam could open her mouth. She wanted to stay here, but she didn't appreciate yet another law enforcement type telling her what to do. A brief thought occurred to her. If she campaigned for the candidates opposing her father, she'd only have to endure this until the election. If he were successful in his bid, she'd be doing this for four more years.
She had thought by moving away from her family she wouldn't be ruled by men anymore. Wrong.
