Chapter 8 What am I Missing?

Crystal Severlance's POV:

-

Severlance 3rd Family Manor

-

"Mother, why must I participate in the family event this time? You always let me skip the ones before." I couldn't believe it. Why do I have to go this time?

-

A middle age woman in a black dress furrowed her brows before replying, "Crystal, stop complaining already. The ones that I let you skipped before were minor events that doesn't affect your future. This one does...." Her name was Roselia Severlance, wife of Rozelle Severlance and she's my mom. I call her 'mother' tho unlike when I call my father 'papa'. Yes, I'm more close to my father than I am to my mother.

-

It was a cool morning today when she came into my room unannounced and told me I have a party to attend to today. "At least knock before you come in, mother. And what's this about a party? Can I skip this one? I don't feel like going today."

-

She rubbed her temples a couple times before she shook her head no. She had this serious look on her face as she continued to tell me what will happen later in the afternoon, I wasn't listening...I didn't want to listen.

-

I was 16 years old already. I was the 3rd young mistress of Severlance Family. I was deemed a beauty among beauties the moment I turned 13. Starting from 14, I would have received thousands of letters from noble sons from all over the kingdom who were trying to court me. It was also because of this that my mom decided to let me skip family balls and banquets knowing full well that I was till underage.

-

Let's be honest here, I have no interest in the men who tried to court me or whoever else who later tries in the future. It's not because they're arrogant heirs or some lucky bastard who thought I would look good in his harem. In fact, there's already one man in my heart. His name is Starfall and he's my...little brother.

-

Now now...before you judge me, I would like to explain myself first. Little brother Starfall is 5 years old this year. He's not tall nor handsome, he's neither charming nor strong...Hmmm...come to think of it, he hasn't even started cultivating yet. He's only five after all. But he's just so cute!!!!!! Not only that, the way he carries himself during family events is just adorable. The way he just sulks in the corner is so precious that I just want to devour him whole! Ahem, I mean...to spoil him till no end! Furthermore, when he's clueless about something, the way he walks up to someone for help is just?! I just lost myself there...Tee-hee! : P

-

Anyway, where was I?

-

Right! Long story short, he's just adorable! Even if we're 11 years apart...Even if we're blood related...Even if I'm not as close to him as Little sister Jade is...Even if he loves other women, Little brother Starfall will always remain in my heart!

-

Speaking of this, it was because my mom and dad knew of this matter that I was exempted from attending parties for the younger generation. All letters asking my hand in marriage were also intercepted and redirected to 2nd Elder sister Da and 1st Elder sister Yunfeng. Although my parents were initially against it, they soon gave up after I crushed the balls of 10 arrogant dogs and thus crippled their ability to pass on their seed. And since my father was also an Junior Elder of the Severlance Family, those crippled dogs couldn't do anything to me. At that point, my parents could only sigh in resignation.

-

Next...

-

"8th Junior Elder Shen and his son will be attending the ceremony later." Mother shook her dejectedly.

-

"'Eh?" My ears instantly perked up. "8th Junior Elder Shen's going? Junior elder Shen's son is...Starfall! Alright Mother...due to certain reasons...I will be attending today's event."

-

Hearing my sudden change in decision, my mom couldn't help shake her head dejectedly again, "The next time the main family wants you to join parties, we just need to make sure 8th Junior Elder Shen participates it too with his son..."

-

'When did this daughter of mine develop a brother complex? And she's a shotacon to boot!' Mother pondered as she walked out of my room.

-

'Now then, I have 5 hours left before the start of my coronation ceremony, what should I wear?' I pondered as I walked to my closet. When I opened the closet door, bags and bags of unworn clothes and accessories were stacked on top of each other, a dream which many peasant girls only dreamed to possess. As for me, I didn't bother to rummage through those bags since I was in hurry. 'Little brother Starfall will be there, I need to choose something eye catching so he'll notice me!'

-

3 hours later...

'And I'm...finally done!' I spoke in triumph. I decided to wear a one piece crystal blue dress dotted with crystals on it. I didn't tie up my hair and instead only pinned a blue butterfly on my head. When I posed in front of the mirror, I couldn't help frowning slightly. I looked stunning but it felt like I was missing something. If I want to attract Starfall's attention, I'll have to stand out even more than my other sisters. 'Oh, this is hard.'

-

Roughly 2 hours later...

By the time a maid had come to inform me that it was time to leave, I had already gone through all 200 paper bags of clothes and accessories in my closet.

-

"Young miss, Madam Qing is calling you to make haste..." The maid was surprised when she saw the piles of clothes scattered everywhere. My actions then should have baffled the maid quite a bit. I was once given the nickname Ice Princess after my father, the Cold King and my mother, Lucid Mistress. I was a beauty whose face was carved from clear jade and whose personality was cold as ice. I have never once bothered about my looks as only Little sister Jade could match me. But now, I was frantically pondering and searching for that one thing I was missing.

-

"Young miss..."

-

"Yeah yeah, I know. Tell my mother I'll be there in a jiff."

-

'Gah, what am I missing?!' At that moment, it suddenly hit me. What I was missing was my confidence! I was so focused on my outer appearance that I completely forgotten my best trait, my confidence! At the realization of this, I knocked my head embarrassed. 'Tee-hee!'
