Intruders

The hooting noise of the birds woke Karen up from her sweet sleep. Stifling a yawn, Karen sat up on her bed craning her neck around to look at the clock on her night stand.

It read 11:37, which meant her dad had already left, oh well.

She lazily dragged herself to her bathroom and took a warm shower and then entered into her walk in closet.

She searched through, looking for something comfortable to wear.

Just then a purple tank top caught her eyes. She carried it and decided to pair it with white shorts.

After getting fully dressed, Karen wore her favorite blue sandal and tied it loosely.

She then strode downstairs to eat her late breakfast.

“Good morning”. Karen sang as she entered into the kitchen.

“Morning dear, you have finally decided to wake up”. Mrs Williams smiles up at Karen, as Karen was a few feet taller than her.

“Yes Mrs. Willy and am so hungry, can I please get something to eat”. Karen whines, using the pet name she had given Mrs. Williams years ago.

“Of course, take a seat”. Mrs. Williams says serving Karen her breakfast.

“Oh and your Dad left hours ago. He left this for you”. Mrs. Williams says handing Karen a small envelop.

“Thanks”. Karen says collecting the envelop and then started digging into her food.

Mrs. Williams smiles at the younger girl. She doesn't have a child of her own because her husband had passed away years ago. Mrs. Williams refused to remarry, deciding to spend the rest of her life alone. She see karen as her own daughter and have loved her even when Karen's Mom was alive.

Karen always wonders if Mrs. ever finishes working. Whenever she enters the kitchen, Mrs. Williams is always doing one thing or the other.

“Mrs. Willy am going out”. Karen informs Mrs. Williams as she puts her plate into the sink.

“Ok dear, be safe”. Mrs. Williams says concentrating on cleaning the counter, doesn’t she ever get tired.

If you don’t know Karen, you might think she is going to a friends or something, but Karen went out through the back door to the backyard.

Gazing at her favorite tree, a smile flickered over Karen’s face. So much of Karen’s childhood memories were connected to the tree.

As a kid, Karen usually climb the tree to hide from her Mom. Her Mom and Mrs. Williams would always looks for her for a long time and would only be able to find her if she decides to climb down from her tree.

She later discovered her daughters hiding spot. Karen and her late friend, Catherine, always used to sit on the tree and hang out, spying on people.

Karen’s happy smile transformed into a sad one as, she misses her Mom and best friend a lot.

She carefully climbed the tree and sat at her favorite spot on the tree, where on one would be able to sight her. She opened the envelop Mrs. Williams had given her and opened it.

She smiled as she saw her Dad’s credit card and a piece of paper inside.

The later read..

Dear princess,

When a princess is having her beauty sleep, it is a crime to wake her up and I had to leave early. Really sorry princess. Anyways I have left my credit card for you, buy whatever you want with it. And make sure you be a good girl and don’t course trouble, oh why am I even bothering myself with all this responsible father's talk. You’re my little good girl. Make sure to call me whenever you are free at least three times in a weak. Bye princess.

Love hero.

Karen smiled reading it and her smile widen as she finished reading it. Karen always calls her Dad hero when she was a kid and sometimes now.

“It entered this house”. Someone says from behind the fence dragging Karen’s attention.

“Are you sure”. Another voice says as Karen listen closely to the intruders voices.

"Yeah let's just jump through the fence and carry it". Another one says.

"No, let's go through the front door and ask for permission". The first guy argues.

"No guys, the owners of the house travelled this morning, so I don't think anyone is home. Let's just jump through and carry it". Now karen is wondering how many guys are out there and what fell into her house.

"Ok you guys should go in and we'll stay here and watch out". Says one of the guys.

"Whatever". Says one of them.

The boys brought a ladder to climb through and then jumped into the house as the fence wasn't that long. Karen hid on the tree using the leaves as a shade, watching the guys enter her house.

She recognized a few of them, they were from her school. Tyler, Michael and john were the once she recognized. They are the schools popular jocks and they play footbal, total jerks.

They all searched for their ball in her backyard as she hid on the tree like a coward.

Not able to confront the guys, Karen continued to hid.

Karen was too focused watching the guys that she didn't notice the later her Dad had written for her had fallen.

But Charles noticed it. He watched as a piece of paper fall from the tree and picked it up.

After reading the letter, he looked up to see where it came from.

Just then a blue snicker caught his attention. Their's someone on the tree, he thought.

"Uhh guys I think there's someone on the tree". Charles calls out to his friends.

Upon hearing that Karen quickly moved her leg up, making her shoe fall in the process, oh oo.

Charles cought the snickers skillfully and looked up to see who it was but he couldn't quite see her as the tree was big, with lots of branches and leaves.

"Common just forget it, we've got the ball let's just go". That was michael speaking, Karen recognized.

"No but seriously, there's someone on the tree, here their shoe even fell". Charles argued.

"It must just be some kid, let's go continue playing". Says the guy karen didn't recognize. They all jumped the fence and left after some more arguments.

Karen released the breathe she didn't know she was holding and got down from the tree when the coat was clear.

"What the...
