49. The target

Early in the morning Leo orders workers in the storeroom: “Bring those bags and put it on the pickup. We are going to need them in the vegetable tunnels.”

He walks out to his 4x4 and waits for the workers to comply. He sees Ronnie coming out of the house and walking in the direction of the workshop and he waves at him. Ronnie waves back.

The workers come out each with a heavy bag and load it onto the back of the 4x4. They return to fetch the next bags. Leo’s smartphone rings and he takes it out of his pocket and sees it is a call from Chloe.

“Morning, Chloe, you are calling very early. Everything okay?”

Leo gets a fright when she loudly and anxiously yells over the phone: “Leo, come to my place immediately! I need you!”

Leo frowns. “Chloe, you don’t sound okay. What is going on?”

Chloe doesn’t answer, but he hears her crying. “Chloe! Chloe, please tell me! What is wrong?”
