Why Would There be Treasure Here of All Places?

The room that they had just entered was near-identical to the chambers that they had previously explored.

The only difference being that this room possessed was absolutely gigantic, not to mention that way up above, lodged into the wall there was a narrow ledge.

This sight was somewhat odd, especially given how the rest of the room was bare, except for the vast number of spiderwebs clogging up the room.

"So, who wants to go check that ledge up there?" asked Edgar.

"We'll go up there together," Eidiri said, "No complaints. Now grab onto the webs and let's get moving."

They each started to grab one of the extremely sturdy lines of webbing rappeling themselves up the wall.

When they reached the ledge they saw a welcome sight, a treasure chest. This treasure chest was left to the side as it was abandoned and viewed as useless.

"Hey, guys! Finally, we get some sort of reward after all that crap we went through!" Edgar cheered.

Seeing this, he quickly pulled himself onto the ledge and hurried to the treasure chest.

Kneeling down, just as Edgar was about to open the treasure chest, it started sprouting legs, and jagged teeth popped out from where the chest would open up.

Quickly it tore off Edgar's arm, viciously clamping its teeth down before vigorously twisting its body so that the was practically sent flying off.

Shocked from this sudden development, Edgar stumbled back, falling onto the floor as his stump was gushing blood out, he wouldn't be able to make it from the looks of it.

"I'm going down," Edgar grunted with gritted teeth, "But let me use the last of this life to get something done."

Luckily enough, Edgar's dominant hand was not the arm taken by the mimic, therefore he drew his poison dagger before charging the mimic, stabbing directly into the top of the chest.

This resulted in the mimic releasing a strangled cry as tore Edgar's leg this time, both of them having their lifeblood flowing out of them.

Despite the mimic's attempts to finish the job and fully devour Edgar's body, the poison dagger had pinned it down into the floor, saving Edgar's body from more excruciating pain.

Deciding to finish the job since they would rather avoid having to wait for the mimic to bleed out and die, Ken walked up to the mimic, making sure to be careful to not have any of his limbs torn off, before cleanly finishing it off.

At this point, Edgar's face had gone pale from the blood loss, "Hey guys, I'm getting a bit dizzy," he said, "I think I might just clock out here."

With this said, Edgar abruptly died, going back to the respawn point, anxiously waiting until the respawn timer finally ticked down.

"Well, now that the matter's settled," Eidiri said, "Is there any actual loot here or just that mimic?" he asked Ken.

"I don't know man, why you go and get your hands a little bloody and see," Ken jabbed.

Ignoring Ken's little verbal jab there, Eidiri walked forward, ready to harvest the mimic.

Pulling out Edgar's dagger, he put it into his own inventory to give back to him later.

Then as for the corpse of the mimic, Eidiri hacked off the flesh-like wood into pieces, causing it to splinter and break.

When the corpse fell apart, several glistening items fell rolled out, covered in minor amounts of blood.

After a little examination of these items, Eidiri deemed them to be satisfactory, sending a quick picture of the details to Edgar for him to check out also.

Then he turned to Ken, "It's pretty decent," he said. "Take a look at this."

Eidiri then tossed Ken a pair of boots, letting him see the details for himself.

After catching the boots, Ken examined them for himself before exclaiming out loud.

"No way we're this lucky. You've got to be kidding me. We actually scored a rare item..." Ken trailed off in disbelief.

"That's not it," Eidiri said smugly, "Check the details on it."

Hearing that there was even more, Ken took another look at it, "This stuff actually gives us that ability. That's like god-tier for exploration and all that."

Then, Ken read off the details.

"Silken Boots of the Matriarch - These boots were obtained after a successful clear of the Caverns of Laroshia and obtaining the loot from the disguised mimic within a hidden chamber.

Way of the Spider - Allows the user to traverse terrain vertically for a minute at a time. Can store up to 2 charges."

On the description where it stated the number of charges there was a little footnote also, clicking on it, a little informative guide greeted Ken.

"Right now these Silken Boots of the Matriarch may only store up to 2 charges. As the item is upgraded the duration for which the boots can be used may be increased as well as the number of charges stored," the guide listed.

"Not to mention that these boots provide armor stats also!" Ken added on.

"Who's going to get the boots then?" he then asked.

"We'll just decide it by random, but look at the other stuff first," Eidiri added on.

"Okay, this is some nice crafting material. Spider silk. Not bad. Should be able to find a use for that," Ken muttered.

Then Ken came upon the last item, a putrid green crystal.

The crystal was glowing ominously as if warning them not to touch it.

"Hey bro, what's this thing?" Ken asked.

"From what I've learned from Jarid, it's a decently rare magic material. Applying it to the type of weapon that it resonates with it will permanently buff it," EIdiri explained.

"Since this is a Poison Crystal, it'll be most suitable to things like Edgar's weapon so we should just keep that aside for him," Eidiri said offhandedly.

"I think that's it for now, let's head back now and see about turning this quest in. Should be cool. Would be nice to harvest some extra rewards after all this. Come on let's get a move on now, if you don't hurry your ass up I'll leave you behind," Eidiri chuckled.

All he got back from Ken was a solemn, "Screw you."
