Chapter 29

The dog's, that Mia heard belonged to the dog handlers that worked on Kevin's base. To her surprise, Red was the one that showed up to help. "You're using your power to keep her from falling?" he asked. "Yes but dont take your time, the ledge she laying on is heavy I won't be able to keep her from falling for much longer," Mia siad.

Red looked at the other dog handlers. One of them to charge. He gave the rope to Red and tied one part to a tree for extra safety. The dogs laid down on the ground and Red used the rope to climb down onto the ledge next to the girl. At that moment Mia found the ledge to be too heavy and shouted. "Hurry up, you're getting too heavy!"

Red grabbed the girl and his partner helped her to the top and Mia let go after the man told her it was clear. She sat on the ground trying to catch her breath for a moment. "Are you okay Mia?" Red asked. The man gave Mia a dirty look but she ignored it, "yes, just my luck I was outside painting or I would not have heard her," Mia siad.

The girl didn't have any serious injuries but as a precaution, she was rushed to the hospital. Kevin looked at Mia and said, "you did good today Mia." She watched everyone driving away and Red came to her and siad, "sorry about not coming around anymore but I have orders to stay away," he siad.

"Dont worry your not the only one that was told to stay away, another friend was told to leave as well," Mia siad. Red raised an eyebrow and asked, "are you okay?" Mia looked around and siad, "I miss my parents with them I was never alone. Tell me do you think I should get a pet, know to keep me company I heard dogs can help with that?" Mia siad.

"Dogs can do more than that Mia, they can alert you if there is trouble. Warn you if there is danger, their sense of smell is better than humans and they always love you. In fact, they are attention seekers," Red siad.

"So where do you get a dog?" Mia asked. Do you want to get a dog?" Red asked. "Yes well I am alone most of the time, maybe having a dog will help that I dont miss my family so much and it's a new art topic to draw," Mai said.

"Well, what kind of dog did you think of?" Red asked. "I dont even know how to take care of a dog, never mind what kind of dog. Just how many are there?" MIa asked. "There is a lot of dogs. Tell me you need the dog to stay with you at all times," Red asked. "Yes, maybe my uncles wouldn't be so worried and maybe they will let me go on hikes if they know I won't be alone. I think it should be one I can train, you know to go get help if there's ever an emergency," Mia siad.

"That narrows the dogs down a lot, I know of a few breeds that would help. I will give the information to Kevin so he can help you decide that's if he allows you to get a dog," Red said.

Mia was busy packing up her art supplies when a truck stopped at the cottage. She looked to see who it was and was surprised to see her uncle Kevin. "Red said you interested in getting a dog?" Kevin asked. "Yes well, dad always said we didn't need a dog or can not afford a dog. I have so many food supplies and wood. I could use the company and maybe train him to do a few things, like get help," Mia said.

"So he was telling the truth," Kevin said. "I understand if you don't want me to get a dog but I need to do something anything. Sure painting and drawing is my life but I miss having my parents around," Mia said.

"I understand it gets lonely Mia but we can't let you have a dog yet. You cost us a lot of money and we have to pay that back first," Kevin said. Mia had tears in her eyes and felt it hard to talk for a moment but she took a deep breath and said, "It's okay I understand, after all, dad was against it as well."

Kevin looked at Mia but something about Mia's behaviour bothered him but he returned to the base since he had work to do. Red came to him that evening and said, "I think you and Mike are taking this punishment too far," Red said.

"Who said we are punishing her?" Kevin demanded. "What else do you think this behaviour looks like. None of the clover's members is allowed to visit her. I am banned from seeing her and you know what, she is not even allowed to leave that cottage. Tell me, if you and Sally don't have the time to spend with her. Do you know what food she has? do you know if she needs anything," Red asked?

"That's why I check in on her," Kevin said. "Have you asked her if she needs anything? Do you know what food she has in her house?" Red demanded. "What is your point?" Kevin asked. "My point is you need to give her something anything to keep her mind off the situation. Mega's are supposed to train, if she sits still too long she could lose control again," Red said.

"What are you saying?" Kevin demanded. "That I will do my job, I told my superior at the government office what has been going on with Mia. They said if you and Kevin are too busy it might be better that she spends her time in a secure facility, If you are going to punish here we might as well do it for you," Red said.

"You misunderstand the situation Red," Kevin said. "Do I, tell me when was the last time she painted a picture that wasn't part of her memories?" Red asked. "What do you mean?" Kevin asked. "Tell me have you and Mike ever spend a day with Mia, have you ever bothered to ask her if she is okay. Her parents were in her life every day now they are not," Red said.

Kevin was quiet for a while but Red wouldn't let go of the subject. "It's one thing to try and keep an eye on Mia. I understand what she did was wrong but you are forgetting she has needs too and Mega elemental users need some form of exercise and last time I checked painting a picture isn't exercise. You said you and Mike don't have a problem training her but you have no time to train her," Red said.

"Calm down Red, I understand your worries and you do have a point but Mike is trying to find a way to have her join up whit the organization. We think it's better that she lives on the base among our members. That's why we said no to her being a dog handler," Kevin said.

"You do know your base alarms makes her sick right?" Red asked. "She will get used to it," Kevin said. "I don't like what you are doing to her Kevin. She needs company if you really cared about her you would have made sure she wasn't alone. Why did you chase Luna away when you want her to get along with everyone on the base?" Red asked.

"Get back to work, you have nothing to worry about," Kevin reassured Red but Red wasn't convinced and reported Mike and Kevin's odd behaviour to his superiors.

Mia was busy cleaning her house when there was a knock on the door. She opened the door only to find a brown paper package on the floor. She picked it up and placed it on the kitchen table. She opened the package carefully and found a wooden jewellery box.

Mia looked at the jewellery box several times. She recognized it as her mothers, Mia rushed outside to the garden and looked around for anyone she might recognize. She checked around the house and stopped to look at the forest in the back.

Mia rushed inside and looked at the jewellery box again. Mia locked the door and closed all the curtains. She picked up the phone and rang Sally but there was no answer. She tried her uncle Kevin who answered. "What's wrong Mia?" he asked. Mia's voice was shaky for a second, "uncle someone just delivered a package, it's my mother's jewellery box. I went outside to see who it was but I don't see anyone," Mia said.

Kevin thought Mia was joking and said, "okay Mia just calm down I'll come and take a look at the box but I don't think you should be worried about anything." Mia's tried to calm down but she was finding it hard to keep her mind off the jewellery box. She took the medicine the doctors prescribed her and soon she fell asleep on the couch.

Kevin was about to sign another document when Red came running into the office. "She almost lost control over her powers just now." Kevin got up and took his truck keys. He drove to Mia's cabin and had to break the door open. Once inside he found that Mia had taken her medicine and was now sleeping on the couch.
