He took Mia to her room and threw a blanket over her but when he got to the kitchen he stopped when he saw the jewellery box. He picked up his phone and contacted Mike. "Tell me you came to see Mia today?" Kevin asked. "No, I am still at clover, why?" Mike asked. "Zara's jewellery box was delivered to Mia today. She said she didn't see who delivered it but she nearly created a storm in the process," Kevin said.
"What am I going to do with her?" Mike asked. "Yes well, any idea how Zara's jewellery box got here?" Kevin asked. Mike was quiet for a while and said, "are you sure it's Zara's jewellery box? Didn't Sally drop it off?" Mike asked. "Yes well whoever brought it scared Mia to the point that she took her medication," Kevin said.
"It's that kind of behaviour that makes it impossible for her to be in our line of jobs," Mike said. "I have to agree but I am considering sending Redback. That man would not stop nagging me about Mia being alone," Kevin said. "What do you mean?" Mike asked.
"He says we don't have enough time to train Mia? He has reported us, thinks its better for her to be in a secure facility," Kevin said. "Yes and that's going to help the situation?" Mike said. "He also wants us to consider getting Mia a sort of pet, something to help her," Kevin said. "You know as much as I want to. We can not afford to have pets. That bill is going to take forever to pay," Mike replied.
"Yes, and to tell you the truth I do feel that she needs to take responsibility. She could have killed someone," Kevin said. What Kevin didn't know was that Mia didn't take all her medicine and that she only passed out due to the fact that she felt overwhelmed. Mia was lying on her bed below the blankets and listening to their whole conversation. When Kevin put the phone down Mia closed her eyes to think.
She thought about her father and felt that she finally understood her fathers lack of trust in his own family. Kevin repaired the door lock and returned to his base. Mia stood up and walked around the house in the dark. She used her Nightvision to help her move around the house and after checking everything she went to bed.
The next morning Mia was up and busy making breakfast when there was a knock on the door. As Mia opened the door she found herself looking at her uncle Mike. "Morning uncle," Mia replied. MIke came into the cottage and said, "what am I going to do with you?" Mia looked at Mike and said, "what do you mean?" Mia asked.
"Look, I am doing my best to get you into the base Mia but I need you to behave. If I hear of another storm you're going to have a lot of trouble. Three trees blew over thanks to you?" Mike said. "But I didn't mean to?" Mia said.
"You don't understand Mia. Your powers can kill people and you are not taking our orders seriously enough. If I see another unnatural storm you will be guaranteed there will be trouble and it will not be good for you Mia," Mike warned Mia.
It didn't matter how many times Mia tried to tell Mike that she didn't mean to. He just didn't believe her and in the end, he left the cottage shouting, "the weather said it's going to be sunny. Why are there clouds in the sky, its unacceptable," Mike said.
Mia watched in shock as her uncle Mike drove away. She considered running away but even her father could not get away from his worse enemies. Mia started to clean the cottage from the roof to the floor. She didn't stop even when there was a knock on the door. It wasn't until a tree fell next to the cottage that Mia looked out of the windows.
She rushed outside the cottage to see if she can figure out why the tree fell but stopped in her tracks when she saw the clouds and the wind. She knew right there that a storm was coming and this one was a bad one. Mia walked over to Sally's house to see the windows had wood panelling all over and the doors were locked.
"They must have taken shelter underground already," Mia said. She went back to the cottage and found a bunch of wood panels in the basement. She took them one by one at a time to nail the windows shut and moved the sandbags to the doors and lower windows, it was to keep the water out. Mia took a deep breath as she saw the storm was coming to her faster and faster.
She went into the cottage and closed the door making sure it would not open during the storm. She was busy making herself something to eat when she heard the wind blowing through the trees. Rocks and sand hit the wooden panels and at some point, Mia noticed the sealing was moving up and down. This was one of the biggest natural storms Kevin and his team had seen and unfortunately, they were unprepared for the devastation that followed it.
The river overflowed its banks and several houses were completely underwater. Mia noticed there was water coming into the cabin and closed her eyes. She was a water user after all and realised she had an idea. Mia pushed the water back and used her mega skill to create an ice wall that kept the flood water and most of the wind away from her home.
She was exhausted when she finally finished creating her ice wall. Once back inside the cabin Mia cooked herself something to eat and started to paint a picture. It wasn't until she heard the ice giving away under the pressure of the storm that she went back outside.
It was dark outside and Mia used her powers to reinforce the ice wall. She used her skills to create steps and noticed a tree had fallen on top of the wall but as she was moving the tree she noticed a tiny creature. She knew it was dangerous to go and get the creature but she did not have the heart to leave it. Mia created a door in the ice wall and pushed the ice to the outside.
She was lucky that the door she created was just above the creatures head. She picked up the creature and realised it was only a puppy. Looking around for his owners she didn't see anyone around. She rushed back inside and mended the ice wall once more.
She took the puppy inside and found it was shivering from being cold and wet. Mia lit the fireplace and took towels to dry the puppy. She shared her food with the puppy and soon they were fast assleep below the blankets until there was a massive crash sound outside the cabin.
Mia was on her feet in seconds and knew the ice had given in. She looked at the water that came in but remained calm as she pushed the water out of the cabin. Mia mended the ice wall once more this time adding layers and layers of ice.
The sun was finally rising once again and Mia hears the wind died down. She looked at the puppy only to realise it wasn't a puppy that she saved but a wolf pup, She looked over the ice wall only to realise if his family is alive they are long gone. She looked at the clouds and realised the storm was finally over. But trees laid around the cottage and the water level was really high. She looked at the wolf pup who was standing outside the cabin.
She knew from the sounds he was making he was calling for his mommy but Mia knew he wasn't going to find his mother. She got down and decided to try and feed it again. As she too was hungry. The days passed by slowly and Mia came to call the wolf pup Hero. He already came when he was called and she didn't mind sharing her food with him.
She checked on the flood level day after day and slowly the water disappeared until only the trees were left. Mia took down the wood panels and she placed them back in the basement with the rest of the sandbags. She was cleaning up when a rescue truck stopped in front of the cabin. Mia looked to see who it was and recognized Red.
"Red, are you guys okay? I tried to phone but I could not get through?" Mia said. "Mia we are all okay but we were not prepared for this storm. The damage is a lot and the base is running out of food supplies," Red said. "I have some supplies I can give," Mia said. "What do you mean? and how did you get through the storm?" Red asked. Mia smiled and said, "I created an ice wall around the cabin. There are damages off course but not as much," Mia said. Red went into the cabin and saw the wolf pup.
"What is the wolf pup's story?" he asked. "The ice wall was breaking and I went to reinforce it. He was hanging onto a tree to try and stay alive. I didn't have the heart to leave him and I don't think I will be able to find his mother. He's happy eating what I eat so we both had enough food and water to eat during the storm," Mia said.
"You said you had food you are willing to share with us?" Red asked. Mia took Red to the basement and he was shocked that Mia had so much food and wood.
"Can we really have some Mia?" Red asked. "Yes, but I am afraid I need some freshwater. I think the filtration system and pump are broken and the only water I have is the river water," Mia asked.
Red looked happy at Mia and said, "this will keep the base going until we get supplies." Red looked at the wolf pup and asked, "are you going to keep him?" Mom always said wild animals are not pets but he is so small I can not leave him so I think I will keep him at least until I find the right people that help wild animals like him," Mia said.
"Okay, I am going to get help and an empty truck. You should start packing the things you need. There is a second storm coming in and this one they said will be worse than the last one," Red said.
