Chapter 31

The men that came to pick up the food looked at the cabin and said, "if the next storm will be any worse the cabin isn't going to last. Red was right, Mia pack what you need. You and the wolf pup will need to stay at the base," one of the men said. Mia packed her clothes and her art supplies. She took her mothers jewellery box and a bowl for the pup to use.

She picked up the pup and got into the truck with everyone else. At the base, Mia got out and Kevin looked at the pup. Mia knew what he was thinking and said, "I couldn't let him drown, I didn't have the heart to leave it," Mia said.

Kevin looked at the wolf pup and said, "just keep it out of trouble." Mia watched her uncle walk away but Mia had to ask him, "I didn't create these storms did I?" Mia asked. Kevin looked at her and asked, "It's not you, it was predicted all though something is affecting it," Kevin said. "Do you think it could be the same group that made my storm worse?" Mia asked.

"I don't know but it's being investigated, listen I prepared a room for you. Just stay there until we call you okay?" Kevin said. Mia found herself in the basement on a bed. She was drawing and the pup was sleeping next to her when a man came to check on her. Your better not use your powers?" he said.

Mia was puzzled until she remembers her uncle Mikes words. Thinking she lost control again. She took all of her medication this time was fast assleep when they came to call her for dinner. Kevin came into the basement and noticed Mia took all her medication. "What's the status on the storm?" he asked.

"Sir the storm is still getting worse," the man said. Kevin looked at Mia and said, "go get Red right now we have a problem," Kevin said.

Red came into the room and Kevin looked at him and said, "get a hold of your superior, Mia isn't the only one that can create a mega-storm and tell him she isn't responsible for this storm. She took all of her medication," Kevin said.

Red looked at Mia and asked, "what are you going to do now?" Kevin looked at Red and said, "I will be talking to Mike that's for sure," Kevin said.

Mia woke up hours later and as she got up from her bed and her feet touched the floor she realised she was standing in water. Looking around the darkroom she used her night vision to find the pup and moved to higher ground. She found the base silent with windows being pulled in and out by the wind. The roof sounded like it was barely hanging on and Mia noticed several buckets was used to collect water that was dripping from the room.

She focused on her hearing and heard her uncle talking in the distance. She followed his voice and found it coming from behind a door. She knocked on the door and all though at first there was no answer someone did open the door. Kevin looked at Mia and all Mia could see was everyone looking at her.

"I thought I should let you know. That there's water coming flowing into the basement," Mia said.

Kevin looked at Mia and asked, "how did you know where we were?" Mia looked at him and said, "I heard you," Kevin looked shocked and asked, "you heard me from the basement?" he asked. "No the floor just above it," Mia said.

"Then you have some really good hearing, lucky you," a man said. "No, it's not lucky to have my hearing. Why do you think I don't stay on the base?" Mia asked. "I thought it's because you are too powerful?" the man said.

"It's mostly because your base alarms hurt my ears and also you should know there are no lights down in the basement. It's not working," Mia said. Kevin looked at Mia asked, "you were not awakened by the sound of an engine?" he asked.

"No its was really quiet," Mai said. "Devon tell me you didn't forget to fill up the generator?" Kevin said. Devon looked guilty and said, "I might have forgotten to do it." Kevin was angry and said, "how are we suppose to empty the basement water," Kevin asked.

"She can, she has a water element of course," the man said pointing a finger at Mia but Mia replied. "My father once said that only a coward blames someone else rather than takes responsibility for his own actions," Mia said.

Devon looked shocked at Mia and Kevin said, "well said Mia, now Devon go and fix your mess and take a few guys with you."

"I can handle the water as long as it has a destination otherwise it will have to stay where it is," Mia said. Kevin looked at Mia and said, "We do have the pump we will use it to get most of the water out and then you can do what you do best and dry the basement out," Kevin said.

Mia felt excited and said, "I love using my powers for something good." Kevin smiled for a moment before replying, "yes and in the meantime, Amber takes Mia to the kitchen and give her the food we kept for her," Kevin said.

"Yes sir," Amber said and took Mia by the arm dragging her to the kitchen. "You sure like to worry your uncle don't you?" Amber asked. "I suspected that for a while now, it's like I am glass and they don't know how to hold me," Mia said.

Amber laughed and asked, "what is the big deal with your powers anyway?" Mia looked at her and said, "I'll show you," Mia said. She took the water and turned it into ice and then used fire to turn it back into water and filled her glass of water again.

Amber's eyes grew wide and said, "Is that all you can do?" she asked. "NO, I can do more than that but they are too dangerous to use in here," Mai said.

"What do you think of this storm?" Amber asked as Mia was busy eating her food. Mia stopped eating and said, "it feels natural but also unnatural like someone is playing with it," Mia said.

"You can feel all that from this storm?" Amber asked. "I just noticed, I do have a mega-storm ability but I am still learning to control it," Mia said. Kevin came into the kitchen after hearing what she told Amber. "You can feel someone playing with the storm?" he asked.

Mia looked at Kevin and said, "it's difficult to describe but it feels like an unnatural force keeps increasing the storm. Dad said it can happen but I thought he said there are measures in place to prevent something like this?" Mia said.

"There are but it seems someone decided not to play by the rules," Kevin said.

"Can you not stop this force, Mia?" Amber asked.

"No that's the worse thing you can do. The more you try to stop it the worse it gets. The storm element is difficult to master but if you use it during a natural storm. Dad always said it's forbidden to interfere with nature and whenever someone does interfere it's a disaster and people will die," Mia said.

"Will die is such a strong word," Amber said.

"There's no way to sugarcoat it, Amber," Mia said. "So how is your control so far during the storm?" Kevin asked. "I took my medication, o no I left it on the bedside table what if it's underwater right now?" Mia said.

"Calm down I do have an extra batch of your medication. But if you have taken it, it should help you for about another few hours," Kevin said. The storm was getting worse and Mia was starting to feel sick. She looked at Amber who was talking about some hot new movie that came out. When Mia suddenly felt the urge to throw up.

She looked for a bathroom and found the closes one, not caring she rushed to the toilet. Amber and everyone looked shocked at Mia. Amber rushed after Mia and came out of the bathroom supporting her. "Get the doctor on call, we have a medical emergency," Amber shouted.

Mia sat on the bed while the doctor examined her. She kept throwing up and her head started to hurt. Kevin walked up and down outside the medical room. The doctor came out to meet him. "How is she?" he asked.

"We gave her stronger medicine but whatever is boosting this storm is, it's making her sick," the doctor said. "She wasn't sick when she was in the basement why now?" Kevin asked.

"There might be something in the room that interferes with the signal. It's worth a try because the medicine isn't really working," the doctor said. Kevin picked Mia up and moved her to another room in the basement that was dry. The doctor kept treating Mia but surprising she started to do better.

Kevin drew a deep breath and said, "keep an eye on her, Amber and call me if there are any changes?" Kevin said and left the room.
