Chapter 35

"What do you mean Mia?" Luna asked. "In case you don't know I have been gone for two whole years and the facility I spend the past two years in made it clear that I was a threat to the public. I am not allowed to work there in fact the more isolated I am the better," Mia said.

"What no way?" Luna said. "Yes, and no one is going to employ someone like me if their customers are going to be in danger," Mia said. "You still have your art Mia," Luna said. "I don't do art anymore. It's just a waste of time," Mia said.

"But you have a wonderful talent, Mia?" Luna said. "It's more important that I train to stay in control. Art is just a waste of time and money," Mia said. "But it's something your mother left for you," Luna said. "Art is rubish, if my parents cared about me, they would have prepared me for life without them a lot better. Art isn't going to keep my powers under control, art isn't going to feed me and art isn't going to prove to the whole world that I am not a danger to them," Mia shouted. She did not wait for Luna to respond, she ran out of the apartment and out of the base.

Everyone tried calling to her but Mia would not stop to listen to them. She ran deeper and deeper into the forest. Away from everything that had happened in the past few years.

She came to the foot of the mountain and started to climb it. She was halfway up concentrating on what she was doing. When the rain started to fall, first it was barely visible but then it fell harder and harder.

Mia made it to the top and found a small cabin hidden at the top. She was cold and wet but she made it to the top. Back at the base, Mike was looking at Clara for an explanation. "What is this about her having a record that made her a danger to the public?" he demanded.

"Your brother insisted on the record but we will remove it provided she stays in control at all times," Clara said. "Yes and in doing so she overtrained all the time and she does not eat that well. She ran off this morning and she still isn't back. I can not run a base and keep an eye on her Clara," Mike said. "This is what you wanted Mike?" Clara said.

"No, what I wanted was for you to help her find a way to make a living without having this dangerous cloud hanging over her head. She had her art, now she won't even draw," Mike said. "That's not all Mike, the presents we left for her. They are in the closet unopened," Mike's wife said.

"Was this you're doing as well?" Mike asked. "Well, I suspect she didn't feel worthy of the gifts you left her or she is too angry to pay attention to them. It will get better Mike but you will have to give it time," Clara said.

"Just what type of jobs have you lined up for her?" Mike asked. "The jobs in places where we can keep an eye on her but as soon as we trust her to stay in control we will let her try working on farms," Clara said.

"Are you telling me she will have to work on farms for the rest of her life?" Mike said. "Yes Mike, her element does not make her suitable for crowded places," Clara said. "Having her doing art is a lot more profitable than farm work," Mike said. "Yes well, art isn't going to help her stay in control," Clara said and left.

Mike noticed it was raining harder and harder, "she isn't back yet?" he asked at dinner. "No one saw her coming in sir," the receptionist said. Mike looked at the rain and said, "she is out training in this rain?" Sam came to Mike and said, "do you want me to go out and look for her?"

"We don't even know where she trains, it is a waste of time right now. We will start looking for her in the morning hopefully she is smart enough to take shelter somewhere but I am starting to regret asking this company for help. I don't see how medication and training from morning to evening is helping. I should have listened to Kevin," Mike said.

"Maybe you should send Mia to Kevin for a while. Maybe he will have better luck with her anger. After all, he went through the same thing when he was her age?" Sam said. "Yea I mess her up and he has to fix it. I will never hear the end of this," Mike said.

"What if she never trusts you again?" Sam asked. "Mike please listen to Sam and phone Kevin. Tell him what is going on and tell him Zack got to her. Maybe he will have better luck in helping her," Mike's wife said. Mike watched his one-year-old son crawling towards him.

He picked up the phone and dialled Clara's number. "Hello," came her voice. "Clara it's Mike, I decided to send Mia to Kevin. I don't know how else to help her and Kevin went through what she went through so I suspect he will know how to get through to her. My sister trusted us with Mia but I just don't have the time to help her," Mike said.

"I understand Mike that's why we made plans to help her," Clara said. "Plans like telling her to stop drawing, don't open gifts since you don't deserve them. O and keep training take medication and don't eat in crowded places or all your meals. Right now if we don't give her food she does not eat and you should know, she is out training in this storm," Mike said.

"What do you mean she's still training?" Clara asked. "I thought you knew already since your the one that made plans to help her?" Mike said. "No, we can only advise how she should do things it's really all up to her how she deals with things," Clara said. "Yes well she is missing in this storm and we can not go out to look for her. You're the one with the tracker, not us?" Mike said.

"Well, there is a problem with that," Clara said. "What is it now?" Mike asked. "The bracelet she is wearing does not have a tracker in but it does suppress her powers," Clara said. "So she can not use her power but we don't know where she is either. That's was very smart of you?" Mike said.

"Well, you did ask us to help her?" Clara said. "This isn't helping her, it's telling her she is a threat and by suppressing her powers she isn't learning how to control them, I asked you to teach her to control her powers and all you did was suppress her powers pushed her to training from morning to evening o and she is dependent on medication," Mike yelled.

"We can take her back to the facility if she is a problem for you?" Clara said. "The problem is not going to be fixed at the facility. Tell me is farm work really the only work she can do?" Mike asked. "No, but it's one of the options she has for a career?" Clara said. "And what about rangers?" Mike asked.

"I would not recommend it what if she lost control?" Clara said. "You should have taught her to stay in control and you didn't instead you listened to my brother and all I wanted you to do was teach her to control her powers. That's all, no medication now elemental suppressors no isolation. All you had to do was to find a way for her to stay in control," Mike said.

"I understand that you are disappointed but it's still early days Mike and your impatient," Clara said. "You had two years, and you want more time?" Mike said. "Yes we will push her harder, but she will learn control?" Clara said. "Yes, and you promised to make her a drug addict as well?" Mike said.

"Don't worry Mike she will be back in the morning and you will see she will not give you any more trouble," Clara said. "Clara she isn't the one creating problems you are," Mike said and ended the call.

"What did she say?" Sam said. "That they needed more time, this apparently will be the last time she creates trouble," Mike said. "How are they planning on fixing this mess?" Sam asked.

"I don't know but I never should have asked them for help," Mike said.

Mia was in the cabin trying to stay warm when her bracelet vibrated. She looked at it and it wasn't long before a vehicle stopped outside the cabin. The door flew open and before Mia could say anything the men in their black suits sedated her and carried her back to the truck.

When she woke up she found herself looking at a very angry Clara. "You are really ungrateful, you know that," Clara shouted. "No, I only did as you asked," Mia said. "Now you will do as we say or these walls will be your permanent home, do you hear me?" Clara said.

Mia found herself back at the base with Mike waiting for her. "Good morning Uncle, aunt everyone," Mia said. She was about to go back to her apartment when Clara said, "You need to apologise and Mia, eat your breakfast and start talking to everyone or I am taking you back to that dark isolated room," Clara said. But Clara's threatening words were heard by none other than Sam.
