A Moment in time

Jane loved watching her sister pop her gum. She did this whenever she was driving. The pressure from driving would make her ears pop. Fawn chewed gum to help release the pressure. Jane didn't realize it till now that she was a little homesick. Her siblings where growing up. It almost seamed like she had put them in a times capsule only to find that it had been opened the moment she left.

As Jane pulled in driveway her mother was waiting to greeted her at the door. The wrinkles on her face seamed to be more noticeable yet her warm spirits stayed the same. She had started to dye her hair and it complimented her well. She looked great with long dark hair. It was starting to salt and pepper in the last couple of years. Had it only been five months since the last time she was home. It seamed her childhood home had aged years in such a short time. How was it that so much had changed? The house looked the same yet the family inside had evolved.

Jane hugged her mother. It was amazing riding home with her sister. They caught up on each other lives. Four years had made them grow apart. Some part of her wanted to see her mother the moment she dropped down. Maybe it was because of Troy. He talked of his mother. Jane realized that her mother was the guiding force in her life. She had no idea who she would have become if it wasn't for her. She seamed to be able to sculpt people without them even realizing it.

Fawn had clearly turned into a beautiful woman. The blissful years of playing seamed to be absent. She was getting married and was soon going to be the first one to leave her childhood home for good. Soon she would have a family of her own. Jane felt like some part of her was stuck in a trance and everything else around her was leaving her behind.

Everyone went about their way. It seamed empty in a since. Her home that she could count on having something out of place turned into a show piece. Her room was exactly as she left it. Maybe her room was the true time capsule. Her family was the every changing world around it.

Her two younger sisters where at camp one basketball and the other was at dance. Jane thought it funny how those two where so different. To be honest all the girls where different. Jane loved the stars and everything technology related and art. Fawn loved all living creatures and had spent her life caring for them. Lilly loved all things girly shoes, clothing and her makeup took over the spare bathroom. Jessie loved sports. It wasn't uncommon to see her watching a sports show with the younger brothers.

Jane noticed how quiet it was. Her brothers always greeted her the moment she walked through the door. She looked around for them. Jane finally asked her mother.

"Mom where is Tommy and Tray.

"They are at the creek, they are rebuilding that rope bridge that broke like ten plus years ago. I told them not too but they have decided to make it indestructible. Do you remember those two boys that fell and got hurt. Jane strained her memories and found nothing. They won't listen to me. Fifteen and they think they are invincible." I can either help them by buying the right supplies or they will do it with old ones. I don't know why they can't just walk around.

She just shook her head in frustration as she washed off potatoes for dinner. Jane mouth started to water just thinking of dinner. Her mom was a cook with talent. She had already started on her aroma warfare. Jane mouth was starting to salivate. She had one hour and was running off of the cinnamon roll she inhaled earlier. If she stayed around her stomach was going to start to protest.

Jane missed that old creek she remembered years playing on that old rope bridge. The memories where foggy on to why she stopped going down there. Probably had more to do with those boys getting hurt and her mother's worries. She decided to visit her brothers. She hadn't seen the creek in over a century. She wanted to see if they had grown another foot. Fawn had mentioned it on the way home. It would help her get her mind off dinner.

Jane reached the creek and in almost an instant in time her childhood was unraveled. She loved this place. It was amazing that it was so close to home. Jane loved to pile rocks in the creek making a make shift swimming hole. It would break every time it got high waist deep. She tried everything and was amazed by the power of a beaver. Up above probably twenty feet was a bridge that went from one side of the ridge to the other. On the other side they had large trees with rope swings and a dock.

Jane caught the attention of her brothers. They where busy running new ropes. They where anchoring them into the rocky cliffs. Jane understand what her mother wasn't so thrilled about their new found project. They where about half way done. It looked amazing. The two boys where working as a flawless team. If people didn't know better they would believe these two could read each other minds. They where twins so it was possible in a way.
