A day from long ago

Jane sat by the waters edge thinking of days gone by. Jane and fawn where commonly together yet she couldn't remember anymore other then herself playing in the creek. She reminded the large rock she put her towel on. It was an odd thought that she would slip down here alone. Jane knew her parents well, she knew she would have had someone with her. It was a odd thought that she hadn't really thought about until today. To be honest almost everything about today seamed off.

Jane clearly remembered the day her mom told her it wasn't safe to visit the canyon. She still could hear the ringing in her ears from that day. Two boys almost died down there it isn't safe anymore. She remembered being heartbroken as if she had just lost her closest friend. that was the starting of Jane becoming so close to fawn. A friendship meant to last a lifetime. She always loved fawn but hadn't connected with her truly until then.

Jane watched her brothers in awe. They looked like young men. Even at such a young age their bodies where tone and has seamed to have matured years in only months. Jane knew them apart by the way they moved and talked but to the world they where a perfect replica of each other.

They both had been doing rock climbing since they where young. It seamed they where drawn towards anything dangerous. Adventure was their middle name. She marveled at them. Once they where babies and she helped to feed and change them. She remembered them trying to walk along the edge of the couch egging each other on. Maybe it was fawns news that made her nostalgic. Why was it that it seamed her world had suddenly shifted.

Jane's thoughts where interrupted by her phone in her pocket. A since of excitement flooded her chest. It was Lue. Lue was her childhood best friend. It was Lue who convened Jane to volunteer at the hospital. They where sixteen working in the child's cove. Districting children from the reality that was happening just floors above. She fell in love with the work but never truly wanted to be part of that world. Lue on the other hand was now a paid worker. She could never leave it behind. Not only that but was in night school to become a nurse.

Jane answered just moments after reading her name on the caller ID. Her face lit up as she answered. Jane was curious to know if her news of her arrival had reached her yet. There is something about seeing your best friend or even hearing their voice that brings happiness to a person instantly.

"Hi Jane, are you home yet."That was Lue for sure. Right to the point.

"How did you know i was coming home."Jane asked she hadn't texted her. Normally she does from the plane but she was distracted. She quickly pushed the mr smell good out of her thoughts.

"You always come home for holiday" although you didn't text me?!

Ya i forget was all Jane could come up with. Lue wasn't the kind of friend you talked relationship with. She just didn't have time for them. She just preferred to be independent. Jane kind of liked that about her. So often people would playfully pry into her life. She never knew why but even though she found men to be attractive; she could never imagine herself being with them.

"Well if you around i could use your help."Lue said with a since of nervousness. I have been volunteering on the eighth floor.

Jane thought for a second. The eighth floor was not the happiest floor. Most of the time people went to the eighth floor for last chance of hope. She had only been there twice. Both times she got slightly ill afterwards. She held her breath.

"I really wouldn't ask if i really didn't need your help. Please!!!" I know you hate the eight floor. But i really really need you." Lue pleaded

Jane sat there trying to decide trying to figure out what to do. Should she help her friend out.

"Okay what time" Jane asked deflated. She decided it would be worth seeing her friend. Even if it meant trying to get sad people to eat. Trying to talk to them about movies or books anything other then the situation at hand. It was only for a few hours.
