Do you want to die?
The voice spoke no louder then a whisper shocked Ann to the core.
Not for real, of corse it would all be staged. A slight pause came next. I can't tell you to do it so i am asking.
Ann didn't answer he was playing with news papers and looked like a crazy man. As she sorted through her bag making sure to give a fare amount of distance between them.
Right now Reese is being transferred to a new hospital the roads are wet and construction roads are dangerous. He is going to die. Not for real thought. His name will and his old life will.
The information hit Ann and furry ran through her veins. She had kept quiet all these years why was he doing this to her family. Couldn't he leave well enough alone. How could he ask her to just give up everything.
Think it over i can move your whole family or i can take care of Reese like my own son. It is up to you. If you want him to meet his child that is up to you. This will draw too much attention if Reese recovers. You know that as well as i do. JJ and Mike deserve better for us to just abandon them to the system.
Ann held her head high. She knew he was right. She didn't say a word and walked back to the car. The park was empty beside the two of them but that didn't mean she was alone. A brief conversation on a park bench as dangerous enough. Showing she was upset could trigger any unwanted attention. She knew the lengths Russel would have to go to pull this off. She couldn't make this request alone but if she told her then they would have to be all in.
Russel dressed up like a drunk hung out on the bench, pretending to make a bed out of newspaper. He was approached by a cop to be taken down to the station. He gave up a small fight and got in the back of the cruisers. A woman called it in. Hope did such a good job at this and she made him sound extra creepy. As soon as he was in the back seat he ripped off his disguise and started talking to the driver.
Is everything underway Russel asked the driver. The man gave him a nod and kept on driving. Soon his the car was driving across three lanes of traffic in a zig zag motion with its lights on. Russel pulled the new outfit out of the back seat and slid on the boots fallowed by the jumper. It gave him the time to look the part it was just seconds later and he was in a sea of lights.
The ambulance was on it's side and was going to explode in just minutes. This was something that all firefighters knew and only a select few knew there was no living persons inside. Russel jumped out of the back of the cruiser. He was almost proud of his men at that moment. They where getting good, even Russel had a hard time believing it wasn't real.
It didn't hurt, that Evan ran his own Halloween business. He had everything from costumes to realistic bodies. Come late September to early November haunted houses would start opening and the door would start to be flooded with people wanting to see his next creation.
Within moments later the ambulance was on fire and his men set to work with the flames. The black smoke reached out trying to choke all the bystanders. Russel shouted out to the crowd and to the other officers. He called out orders and kept all but his men away from the wreck. Soon the fire was abolished and he left leaving the mess in the capable hands of his men.
He was still waiting for the answer form Ann and she knew she had just minuets before the news would reach the hospital. He had given her as much time as possible but the second hospital was going to be calling soon. They would be notified of the fake death of Reese Lark. If they where not on the road now then it was going to be impossible to hide her too.
He rode back to the warehouse with one of his paid men. He learned a long time ago every person has a price. They would even sell out their loved ones. Those that didn't where the ones he trusted. This simple cop was cheep and knew how to keep his mouth shut. Of corse Russel had black mail and would destroy this man, if he even sneezed in the wrong direction. Even so he didn't know Officer Clay wasn't an undercover cop. That was the best way to keep you under cover the more covers you have the harder it is to be uncovered.
