On the other side of the door

Angela stood in the doorway not knowing what to expect. This of all things, was even more unsettling then she could imagine. She was greeted by a tall man with blond hair. His eyes where blue and she almost stopped breathing for a second. He held a similar handsome glow that she knew somehow. He looked familiar and yet, she had no idea who he was. His smile comforted her in an instant. Yet she felt uncomfortable at the same second. He moved in such a way that she desired to fallow him. He called her by name and gestured for her to come in. She stepped into the doorway and the door closed behind her. The sounds of it clicking made her jump a little. She turned and looked at it for a while. She knew that the door closing behind her was more then just a door. She could feel it in her bones that this was permanent.

He greeted her softly and asked her to come in. A smile was shinning on his face. Like he was expecting her. She was just as lovely as he had been told. She clearly was carrying a strapping young lad. He was excited to get to meet him soon. More excited then to be expected, because he was given a second chance. He knew she was scared and moved slowly to not spook her. He wanted to make this place as comfortable as possible for a lady. Currently only men lived in this base. Any comfort from a woman had to be done off base. There was no need for a soft touch. He didn't know how long she would be staying. This wasn't the best place for a child. He was ecstatic that she had chosen to come. This was a chance he wasn't going to take advantage of. He knew that her knowledge was limited and decided to take it slow.

Angela was uncomfortable in a way she had never know. The man who greeted her seamed to know so much about her. He called her by name and brought her to a room that was bright and had accommodations that clearly supported her needs. How long was she going to stay here. Fear started to settle in. Was she in danger? Was her baby safe? She looked at the man through the side of her eyes trying to decide. Was he going to hurt her? Could she make an escape. Was his kindness a mask for the devil inside. Maybe she shouldn't have come. No she definitely shouldn't have come. She reached into her bag for a safety line. She wanted her phone. She shuffled through her bag. The longer it took her to find it the more she started to panic. She didn't want him to know. But she feared it was starting to show.

He knew how she was feeling. Her body became stiff. He knew how this looked. He brushed his hands through his hair. Even though he did his best effort for comfort. He could tell came across as creepy. He didn't have time to think of that. His personal emotions got the best of him. He only knew for a few hours that she might come. when he knew it wasn't just a possibility. He did what Ann would have done. He ordered his men into action to create this paradise. Ann had described her in perfect detail. He knew she loved it, the moment she saw it but the moment was short lived. Now it looked like he was a kidnapper.

Why don't you come with me? he asked in the softest voice he could muster. He controlled his voice to cover his disappointment. He knew that he couldn't stall her any longer. It wasn't good for the baby, or for her. She needed to be calm and had already gone through too much. Sadly he knew that leaving her family behind would only make this harder over time. This was something he knew from experience. They walked to a elevator slowly and quietly. He knew she was trembling he wanted to comfort her. This was a lot of information to process. They had never met officially so any form of contract wouldn't be welcome. This was the pain a person gets from watching from the shadows. He held his breath and finally decided to come clean. He knew her stepping into the elevator with him was wishful thinking.

Angela looked around the room. She could tell someone knew her designer preference. The colors where in her favorite palette. The bed spread was one she had been eyeing at the store. The rocking chair and baby crib was the same as what she had put on layaway. This was getting really really real. She had a disturbing feeling that she was never going to be able to leave this place. She wanted to leave this room. She wanted to go back to Ann and her mother. He asked her to come with him. She fallowed him leaving a good amount of space between them. She started tremble when she saw the elevator. This was it he was going to take her to another floor and kill her and take her baby! Her concentration broke when he asked if the stairs would make her more comfortable. She had no emotions for that statement. He mentioned that since she was expecting the elevator would be more comfortable. For what????

He looked at her waiting for her response. You can go alone if it is me that is the problem.

Go alone to my death she thought. My colleague will meet you on the other side the horror music played in her head. Her eyes where huge and she tried to control her breathing.

If you want the kitchen it is floor two if you want to see Reese if is on floor three. He held his head down he had imagined this going a lot smoother. He wanted her to know she was family. Ann was always better at that then he was. He knew he was a little delusional, for even he was trapped here. Yet it was his choice and he knew what he was giving up.

At the mention of Reese's name her bones quickly released. You can come with me she offered . Now that she knew she wasn't alone she was okay. The terror was soon replaced with trust and courage. She knew the "what if" question meaning now. She knew she was here for him. She knew her mother in law had the room put together for her. She knew she had what was best for her in heart. Why she didn't come with her was a mystery.

Angela made up conversation as they stepped into the elevator. Trying to smooth over the earlier misunderstanding. She thought she played it cool. But, in actuality she probably looked like a trapped animal.

"How do you know Ann"she asked. She wanted to double check the connection. Just to be safe. The closer his connection to her, the more she could trust him.

"She is my wife" he answered in sad voice he missed seeing her everyday hearing her voice and kissing her lips. Holding hands when they drove in the car was one of the simple things in life he could no longer have.

Angela could hear the sorrow in his voice. In that same instance she knew he was Reeses's father. Her eyes became large in the realization of the situation.

"You have been here all this time" she was rude and didn't even stop to evaluate the situation. She said it in a way that he had chosen to abandon them. There was probably more feelings behind the words then Angela would have intended for.

"Yes, I have been here twenty years" he knew the question would come up. He left to keep them safe. He loved them, with all his being. He was grateful that he was still able to see Ann from time to time. That simple pleasure being owed to Russel. His boys knew him to be dead. It was for their own safety. He missed them and would watch from a distance knowing everything about them but never being able to be known.
