Chapter 7

Jaiden, Renee and the old man who Jaiden called uncle Grey sat down in the living room.

The husband and wife were in amazement as they sat down not only the water they drank made them feel refresh. Even their mind became clear and attentive.

The old man Grey smiled seeing them like that. "Just some water I mixed with medicine. It's not that special."

Jaiden woke up and politely thanked the old man.

The old man Grey did not waste time as he beckoned Renee to stretch her hand out.

Holding her hand the old man closed his eyes for a moment.

As soon as the old man took hold of her hand Renee felt as if a wind brushed off her body even though they were inside the house and the windows were closed.

"There is nothing wrong with your body, at least I'm not seeing anything at the moment. But we will check that later." The old man spoke softly as he opened his eye again and released his grip on the hand.

Sitting beside them Jaiden was somewhat nervous. Hearing the old man he felt relieved at the same time somewhat suspicious.

The wisewoman spent a much longer time yesterday while checking his wife's condition.

But he still did not feel anything wrong with it, as he had never seen much of the healers.

The old man stood up from his chair and entered another room beside the living room leaving the couple alone.

"What do you think? Did he check anything or just simply said some words.?"

Renee asked her in a low voice husband seeing the old man leaving them alone.

"Don't worry uncle Grey would not lie for no reason. Let us see what advice he has, then we will decide." Jaiden said after thinking for a moment.

awhile waiting for the old man the couple looked around the living room. But they did not find anything particular, if anything it looked like nobody used this room.

There was barely any furniture for them to sit and almost all the area in the living room was filled with some sort of book or documents and some strange drawings.

The walls were also filled with different bookshelves. Leaving no space for other things.

The old man returned to the living room again while holding a box made out of wood. The box was plain without any designs or carvings and a simple lock attached to it.

After sitting down he opened the box slowly showing some leaves that looked like tea leaves.

"These tea leaves were personally grown by me. Have it in the morning every day. And if you finish them just ask me again." He pushed the tea leaves towards Renee who got confused.

"It will help the baby's grown before birth and nothing more. Now let us talk about some other matters." The old man said calmly and gave them advice just like other workers at their work place. It was not much different but only some other diet-related things.

He finished his talking after a short while and calmly said again "There is nothing to check at the time but do come again every week. And if there are any complications I will check them out."

The couple left the old man's house shortly after and made their way towards the gate but they were, even more, confused now. Because the old man did not do anything special or had given them any medicines but only some tea leaves, he did not even ask them for money and refused Jaiden when he was giving it on his own accord.

They looked at each other and entered their small house without saying anything.

"You think we should go to the wisewoman again tomorrow?" Renee asked thinking about how the old man did the examination.

"Hmm, we would go there in the evening after work. Don't worry, we should also ask her about the tea too." Jaiden said immediately. He too was sceptical of the old man.

Putting down the tea box the couple began their preparation for dinner. Renee changed her outfit after cleaning herself while Jaiden walked out of the backdoor to prepare some firewood for cooking and as well as to heat some water for a bath.

...

The morning came and Damian followed his morning routine of training and drinking his morning tea in the garden but he only had the company of Louis today.

His grandson and daughter did not come here every day but only sometimes.

After finishing the tea he sat here for a while and took his leave to prepare himself for the work after having a bath.

When he entered his study room he looked over his table but there was no newspaper there but only work-related documents.

After finishing his morning paperwork he noticed there was another letter along with the other letters he got from people but instead it showed the seal of his house management so he opened it.

After reading it he couldn't help but smile. "Morris still has not forgotten his old habits, It's just a small permission he could've simply given them without me."

While he had placed rules inside the mansion, there was not any need for his trusted aids to get his permission for simple matters such as these. But there were still some who abided by the rules and that also made him feel proud to have them.

It was non-other than the leave permission the couple had submitted just yesterday evening.

Elder Morris had kept his word and immediately informed his lord. Damian smiled after reading it because he heard the workers talking about it yesterday.

He was happy knowing that there will be more children in the town. It also meant that his grandson could have other friends.

He approved the permission and also put it inside the tasks arranged for his daughter. She had recently asked him to make some findings for the pregnant women so it was better to let her handle it.

Because of poverty in some households, there were a lot of abandoned children in the kingdom. It was rare to see abandoned children in small-town such as Edgekeep because there were always some kind people who helped if they could.

But the situation was different in the bigger and flourishing cities. People had to struggle just to survive a single day so how could they help others.

As for nobles, not many cared for commoners if there were no war and only cared if the kingdom needed them to send soldiers.

Because they had been living in the capital for some time his daughter knew about these difficulties and decided to provide some help if it was within her capacity.

Damian did stop her from doing so. As for the funding, he was a royal knight at some point and money was not a problem for him.

If anything he was more than happy to help as it reminded him of his kind wife.

...

After doing their work for the day the couple made their way to the wisewoman outside the town.

Even today the workers were talking about them and they had to constantly listen to the different advice.

They took some vegetables as a gift for the wisewoman and reached her hut after some time.

They told her about the old man Gray examining Renee as well as showed the tea given to them.

The wisewoman had light flashed through her eyes as she listened to them talk about the tea. And after seeing the tea she only looked at it for a bit and held only a single leaf of it as if she was afraid to damage anything.

The couple did not find anything strange as everybody in the town who had come to the wisewoman knew she did some strange things so they were used to it.

"You do not need to feel cautious about the old man, he is a much better healer than me. It's just that he loved peace much more and does not like it to be disturbed too much." The wisewoman placed the leaf back in carefully and asked Renee to close the box.

The couple was obviously shocked to hear her say that. As far as they were concerned the old man looked anything but a healer. The only reason they had gone to him yesterday was that he was their neighbour.

"If you need any help for pregnancy, he is much better to help than me. As for that tea, It is as he said. It will help the child during the pregnancy so there is no problem consuming it, If anything its much better than any other medicine I can give you." The wisewoman continued.

But the couple did not notice as even the wisewoman was looking at the wooden box as if it were some sort of treasure. But thinking about the old man, she did not have any thoughts of stealing it or even keep that single leaf she had examined.
