Chapter 26: Su Yan

When Lin Fan was certain that he was dead, something unexpected suddenly happened.

Su Yan suddenly reached out with her hand to grab Lin Fan by the shoulder before pulling him in towards her, pressing his body against hers. Then she kicked off on the ground and suddenly jumped into a spin, spinning with Lin Fan in the air.

The spin allowed them to avoid the bullet and with the other hand that was free, Su Yan had already pulled out her gun to aim at the gangster.

Before that person could even react, Su Yan had already pulled the trigger.

That bullet flew right through the air and pierced through that person's chest to hit their heart. It wasn't off by a single millimeter, it landed right in the center of their heart.

That person clutched their chest in disbelief as they looked at Su Yan and Lin Fan. They tried to bring their gun up for another shot before they fell to the ground, but that person just didn't have the strength to do it.

Clutching his chest and holding his gun, that person fell to the ground and quickly turned into a corpse.

Lin Fan was in a daze as they landed, not understanding what had just happened.

He stared at Su Yan in disbelief, not understanding what she just did or how she had done it.

But the biggest question that was on his mind was that if she could do this, why didn't she do this before?

Back when they were in the penthouse and back when he had taken the bullet for her. If she had been able to do all this then, why didn't she?

However, before Lin Fan could say a thing, Su Yan had already grabbed his hand and was walking away as she said, "Let's get out of here, it'll be dangerous if we stay any longer."

Lin Fan was still thinking, but hearing what she said, he threw the thoughts into the back of his mind. Right now, he had to take care of this side mission first, the rest could come later.

This time, it wasn't Lin Fan leading the way since his map had already disappeared. Su Yan quickly pulled Lin Fan along the streets until they arrived at this building that was much taller than the rest, but it wasn't as big as the rest. It almost seemed like a guard watchtower.

Su Yan brought Lin Fan up to the top floor and took out some binoculars to look around. After seeing nothing in particular, she let out a sigh of relief and fell down into the chair that was beside her.

Lin Fan just stood there in a daze, looking at her.

She looked at him with a confused gaze and said, "What are you looking at? Is there something on my face?"

This didn't seem like the words of someone who had just escaped death at all, these were the words of someone who faced death like it was nothing. These were the words that someone said when they knew that they had nothing to lose.

But that didn't mean anything to Lin Fan right now, there was still something else he needed to take care of.

Lin Fan was about to leave when Su Yan said, "Can you stay a bit, I want to talk to you."

Lin Fan was surprised to hear this as he turned to look at Su Yan, but seeing the serious look in her eyes, he took a chair and sat down beside her.

There was an awkward silence that filled the air for a few seconds before Su Yan finally said, "Why did you try taking that bullet for me? You barely know me, is it worth doing this?"

Lin Fan clearly didn't expect this to be the first question, so he was caught off guard. After a few seconds of being silent, he said, "I don't know either. My body had just moved before I could stop it. Perhaps we knew each other in a previous life."

Su Yan looked at Lin Fan with a gaze of doubt before asking, "You know who I am, don't you?"

Lin Fan looked back and after a pause, he gave a nod.

Su Yan looked like she wanted to say something, but then she changed her mind.

Without knowing why, she suddenly felt a different kind of emotion.

After another pause, she then said, "I want to tell you a story, will you listen?"

Lin Fan immediately gave a nod.

Su Yan said, "There was this girl whose family had served the family of this other girl, so naturally she was also chosen to serve that girl. They grew up together, doing everything together, but that girl didn't know who she was. That was until the girl who she served told her who she was. She was nothing more than a puppet to serve that other girl who looked like she was the child of god and she chose to accept this."

She looked into Lin Fan's eyes after saying this and said, "What do you think of that?"

Lin Fan had a clear idea of who the people in this story were, but that also confused him.

Everything that he had thought that he had believed seemed to be changing on him and everything that seemed so simple was now so complicated.

But when he thought of the system that he had been given and the first girl that he had met, he knew that this was just a part of it. He still hadn't come to terms with what kind of system this was and what kind of girls it gave him. They were anything but simple…

Lin Fan looked back into Su Yan's eyes and said, "I think that girl still has her own free will, but she is just too afraid to make a choice."

Su Yan looked like she wanted to say something, but Lin Fan suddenly raised his hand to cut her off before saying, "I actually have a question I want to ask you."

Su Yan was taken aback, but then she gave a nod and said, "Alright, I owe you that much at least."

Lin Fan asked, "Is it worth giving your life for her?"

Su Yan immediately fell into a daze when she heard these words.

It took her a long time before she was finally able to give a nod and say, "My life is hers."

But when she said this, her eyes had turned dim…

It was almost as if she didn't even have control over herself.

Lin Fan then said, "But you are you and she is she."

Su Yan didn't hesitate this time as she said, "But I belong to her, that's just how it is."

Lin Fan had gotten the answer to the question in his mind just from this.

There was no doubt about it, Su Yan had purposefully chosen to die in those previous worlds all for a certain reason. He didn't know what the specific reason was, but there was someone who told her to die…

That person was no one else other than that same little girl who had started all of this…

In Lin Fan's mind, he began quickly sorting out all the information that he had just learned and he quickly began changing his goal.

Lin Fan's plan had been so simple, but now he even doubted whether his plan was the right thing to do.

However, there was one thing that he was certain of.

There was a person in front of him that needed his help, that was just the most basic thing.

Lin Fan wanted to reach out to hold Su Yan, but before he could, she slapped his hand away and said, "Don't you ever touch me. She won't let anyone else touch me."

Lin Fan looked at her not with shock, but rather with pity.

This definitely wasn't normal behaviour, only those that had a deep psychological trauma would act this way.

Lin Fan said, "I just want to help you."

Su Yan's eyes softened for a second before suddenly turning cold and saying, "I think it's time for you to leave. It's about time for the raid on the warehouse and I'm sure you can't miss it."

Lin Fan just looked at her for a few seconds, but he still turned to leave in the end.

He knew that staying here wouldn't let him do a thing for her. The only thing he could do now was stay on the path that he was already on and see things through to the end.

There was someone else he needed to confront, but before he could do that, he needed to solve his current problems.

But as he left, Lin Fan didn't forget to turn back and say, "I will save you."

Lin Fan didn't notice it, but there was a sudden tear that came out of Su Yan's eyes, sliding down her cheek and wetting the collar of her black skinsuit, but it couldn't be seen since it was absorbed by the fabric of the black skinsuit.

Then her eyes turned cold once again as she said, "There's nothing for you to save. You are deluding yourself."

Lin Fan didn't look back at all when he heard this, he just continued walking out of the tower and heading back to the warehouse.

While Lin Fan was even more confused on what the story behind all this was, he at least knew what he had to do.

This system, things never turned out the way he wanted them to.
