Chapter 28

She jogged up the steps to her apartment and noted that the lights were still on. The very idea that she would be leaving tomorrow made an encounter with Phyllis and Morty, or any of their ‘friends’, less of a headache to endure.

Neivayka pushed the door open and stopped in her tracks as fear seized her body, making it hard to breathe and hard to move. The only person in the apartment was all too happy to see her.

“Hello, Neivayka.”

She opened her mouth to speak, but her words failed her as if he had a hand around her throat and was cutting off her air.

“Do you know who I am?” the man asked with a wide grin on his face.

He was so beautiful that it hurt just to look at him. Unnaturally beautiful, and Neivayka knew that was why it was hurting. There was no reason for a man to be more beautiful than the angels depicted in the most famous paintings. He was Lucifer, he was evil, he was the Shadow that had consumed the Light World.

“Lorimer,” Neivayka breathed out.
