Chapter 30

She waved a hand in front of the sun, and it blinked out, leaving the beach so dark the water wasn’t even visible. Then with a flick of her wrist, the light came back, blazing bright and burning away the shadows. Just as she had said.

“I can’t even get back, Iola. I don’t know where to begin to look for a portal,” Neivayka protested weakly.

Iola smiled, then stood and dusted the sand off her white dress. “Well, then we shall simply have to send for you.”

Neivayka scoffed. “You don’t even know where I am.”

Iola gave her a secret smile before disappearing into the ocean without another word. Feeling exhausted once again, Neivayka curled up on the warm sand and closed her eyes. The rhythmic pounding of the waves soon rocked and lulled Neivayka into a deep sleep.

Until a hard pounding jerked her awake again.

“Girl! Get out here now!” Phyllis screamed through the locked door.

Neivayka groaned and rolled over to face the wall away from the door. “No! Come back in a few hours.”
