Chapter 56

“Nothing will ever keep me from my queen,” Lorimer stated, sounding even more like a warning to her.

“I am not your queen, Lorimer. I will never be your anything… ever. If you haven’t gotten that by now, I feel we should question your intelligence,” Neivayka replied with a smirk.

“Never say never, little one. I have a feeling I know something that will change your mind,” Lorimer countered.

“What do you mean? There is nothing you can do or say that will change my mind,” Neivayka declared adamantly.

Lorimer smiled slyly. “Maybe. But unless you speak to me now, you’ll never know.”

Neivayka crossed her arms over her chest and thought over his words. He was right. Unless they spoke, she would never know what he thought he had over her. At the very least, she could listen just to put him in his place.

Neivayka’s lips turned up in a blasé grin. “Fine. I’ll humor you. What is it that you have that I would want that badly?”
