Theo slammed his hands down on the table for the tenth time in the last hour. They were starting to ache, and he could tell a few pieces of the wood had embedded themselves under the skin. But his anger still hadn’t eased a bit; it was still boiling under the surface, demanding he do something.

“I’m not saying we send Neivayka. But I know we have some allies to the north. Surely at least one of them can peek in Lorimer’s castle and tell us whether Iola can be rescued. I think we are being hasty to just dismiss Neivayka’s request to save her mother,” Theo argued with the group.

The Elders were all for letting Iola rot in that stinking prison just to save their skins. But Nesha and Pontius were on his side. They were willing to do whatever it took to save Iola and spare Neivayka the pain of losing her mother.
