Chapter 89

There was hope in Avery’s young voice. Neivayka knew that she was thinking of all the others that had succumbed to the Shadow. With every breath in her body, Neivayka wanted to scream ‘Yes!’. She wanted to defeat every Shadow out there and set everyone free. But, as her shoulder and side throbbed, she knew that there was a very real chance that the answer was no.

“I’m not sure,” Neivayka answered, putting her hand on her shoulder.

She realized that her leather vest hadn’t been torn, but the sensation of the gouges was still there. She pulled the shoulder down and found three horrific grey slashes in the exact area she had seen the blood. But that was the only evidence that she had been attacked. With a glance at her side, she found the three grey spots where the creature's claws had punctured her.

Avery stepped closer and inspected the areas. “What are those?”
