Chapter 109

We had barely stepped out the door when Benjamin scooted us back in. I opened my mouth to ask him what the hell, but he quickly raised a finger to his lips looking urgently. I pressed my lips together and listened for a moment. Heavy booted footsteps were clunking up the stairs and the owners were whispering back and forth.

“I saw them go in here.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes. If it weren’t for the screaming, I wouldn’t have seen them.”

“I think your losing your mind. I didn’t see anyone come in here.”

“I swear I saw them.”

“You’re seeing things, man.”

A spark of recognition hit both Benny and I at the same time.

“Craig?” I mouthed to him.

“No way. He shouldn’t have made it this far yet,” Benny said back.

“We have to check,” I said to him.

He nodded and made a sign for us to stay here. I nodded and stepped back inside with the boys.

“What’s going on, Mom?” Marcus asked as soon as the door closed.

“Benjamin and I think that Craig’s here,” I explained to him.
