Chapter 32

Present

Jake left early this morning. His parents' plane lands at LAX in a couple of hours, and he wanted to run home before picking them up.

I grab a blanket and lie on the suspiciously empty couch to watch the recording of Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve and the ball drop. I had fun last night, but nothing compares to New Year's Eve in New York City. The crowd, the music, the food, the decorations, and the excitement in the air ... it's just magical.

I bet Adriana was dressed to the nines and flitting her way from posh party to posh party. Probably on the arm of some tall, dark, and handsome guy. As angry as I was with her when I left, I still miss her so much. I wish I could call her, but I am not sure she will ever forgive me for leaving. It's better this way anyway. Adriana is a family princess. She intends to stay and marry the man of her papa's choosing and live the glamorous life as the head of a dynasty. The exact opposite of what I want.
