Chapter 24_ Always a step ahead

Instead of going to Raine's private office, April headed upstairs to Raine's room and Raine followed behind her without voicing out a complaint.

Upon entering Raine's room, April turned to Raine and asked for permission to lock the door to her room.

Raine settled down on the white bedroom bench sitting at the end of her bed and crossed her ankles. April understood that she had been given permission so she locked the door quickly.

When she was done, she went to Raine's laptop, switched it on and connected a pen drive to it. She scrolled through the contents on the drive and opened the document she was interested in. She printed out two copies and gave one of it to Raine while she held on to the second one.

"This document contain all the information about those who frequented the restaurant this year and the room they occupied." April mentioned as she gave Raine the document.

Raine flipped through the document very quickly as she tapped her lap. "Who handed this over to you?" She asked as she raised up her face after a while.

"I bypassed protocol and received it straight from the receptionist you privately scoured out." April responded tentatively and watched as Raine curled her lips in a smile.

"Is there any problem with the information I got from Lucy?"

"Yes, there is. It's not complete but this wasn't by any manipulation on Lucy's side. It's just that some Information hadn't been entered from the start or rather it had been deleted." Raine replied with excitement.

"How can that be?" April asked in wonder and exasperation.

Since the identities of the owners of the restaurant were special and could decide to check in anytime, it was a very tedious process to book a room in that restaurant. There were a lot of paperwork and procedures for both the security of the clients and the restaurant itself.

Moreover, it also helped to provide adequate privacy as there were grades to the privacy provided. The privacy a client was given is dependent on the information on the paperwork they submitted.

So for people to have sidestepped the process it was very unbelievable and risky. Even Raine was no exception to the rules!

"Is there a way to confirm that there's been a manipulation, Madam President?" April asked in worry. Even though, she didn't know how Raine was able to figure out the omission, she believed and trusted her judgement so all she cared about was resolving the issue.

"Of course, there is a way. I can finally make use of the safety measure I've installed a long time ago without the knowledge of anyone but it might take a bit of time and effort. Rose, isn't here to assist us and I've given Rachel another assignment so it will be just us two. However, I have a guest who is very nosy and wouldn't allow me to work overnight." Raine mentioned as she furrowed her eyebrows.

"Madam President, just leave it all to me. I'll do it myself." April said with conviction and Raine laughed.

"Really?" Raine asked as she heard the funniest thing in days.

April, not understanding the reason for Raine's laughter and suggestive looks confirmed what she had said earlier by nodding her head confusedly.

"Since you are so sure, I'll give you two full days to get it done but if you are not done by the second day, there will be some consequences and don't worry, the fridge is loaded with everything you will need for those days. If you find time to sleep then you can use my private room and of course, you can use anything you need in my office for the two days." Raine instructed the confused April.

April couldn't understand anything that Raine was saying so she interrupted her. "Ms. President? Please can you explain what I'll be doing in your office and which of them exactly?"

"I think it'll be better if I show you rather than explain it. Let's go to my office through the garage."

April understood Raine's reasoning and personally led Raine out of the house to the garage then through the room at the end of the garage.

Instead of passing through the door at the left side of the room like Raine did the last time (just a reminder, that door leads to the passage near the living room), April opened the door at the right side of the room and they walked into Raine's private office.

Raine began to lead the way now that they had entered her office. She walked to the group of computers, she had put in her office for April and Rose's use; switched one of them on and began to code.

April watched as Raine worked on the computer, fascinated as always. There was just a certain charm to Raine whenever she was working.

Not long after, images began to show on the computer and April was shocked. "Madam President, this is?!!"

"Surprised? Not even Rachel knows that I personally set up secret cameras in each private room, anticipating an occasion like this where they would be needed. I hacked into the server at the restaurant and I'm playing the images from the database. This is going to be a lot of work for you but I believe you won't let me down. Correlate the information we have with the images and the time of entrance. One year would take too long for you so I've set it to six months but if you're done with the last six months and you're willing to check the earlier six months then you can."

As Raine was instructing April, she explained everything she was to do to her and wrote down some other codes she would need to run during the duration of her investigation.

When Raine was done explaining, April was overwhelmed and finally understood why Raine had laughed at her earlier. She had truly dug herself a very big pit that she had no other option but to jump into and she was oddly excited about it.

Just as Raine was about to leave the office, she looked back at April and said something that made April disregard all the discomfort she was about to go through. "April, think of whatever you want me to do for you when you're done. I promise to do it as long as it is in my power to."

April watched Raine leave with a big smile, tears in her eyes and a heavy conviction to accomplish her task with flying colors.
