Chapter 4 : Denial or Truth

Isabel could not believe the words being spoken by her father. How dare him, how could he do this to her. She was so angry. Looking at him and then at her mother she shook her head in disbelief and ran out of the room. She did not allow herself to reply to him. As soon as the study door slammed shut, only then did she allow the tears to flow down her cheeks. Her parents had delivered the news to her on the eve of her twenty-first birthday.

She was sworn to secrecy. She could not even mention this to Keron or Annie they told her. In time they would find out her mom said. Her whole life was ruined, her hopes and dreams broken in this very moment. Everything she was working towards seemed impossible now. She was leaving England in week to move to her childhood home in Scotland. Her dad mentioned that once she gets there, everything would be explained further.

Racing to her room before anyone could stop her she tried to get her thoughts together. As she lay across her bed, her head was reeling from the news trying to make sense of everything. Her whole life they have been lying to her. How could they do this to her. Parents are suppose to love and want the best for their kids and she was no different from the other children at her college. Her dad said she was not like the others and its time for her to be with her own kind. Was he crazy.

Never in all her twenty years did she hear her father speak like that. Yet her mother stood quietly as he explained to her patiently about the move and that she would continue school across there. She had a week to explain to Keron and Annie about what was about to happen no one else he warned. Crying her eyes out she couldn't find it in her heart to leave Keron behind.

Didn't her parents at one time fall in love, why couldn't they understand what she had was an everlasting love, a guy who would move mountains to be with her. All these thoughts ran through her mind as she lay there. Such a beautiful evening and here she was having a pity party alone. Her phone started ringing, picking it up she saw Keron calling. He was taking her out for dinner but she knew she needed time to recover. She couldn't speak to him right now.

Switching off her phone she rolled over and groaned. Life was so unfair. The whole universe as well she decided. There was a knock on her door, it was her mom. Entering the room her mom came and sat on the edge of the bed. Gently stroking her head she started humming my favorite childhood song. I lay still while listening to her, it brought me a bit of comfort. I knew she was doing this for what was to come after.

Raising me to sit up, my mom hugged me and took my hands into hers." Isabella," my daisy, my sunshine your father and I love you very much and it was never our intention to hurt you, but as your parents we have a duty to fulfill. We had to wait until now to tell you all about this. You knew we came here to give you a private and normal life as possible. Don't be angry at your dad, he loves you more than life. You are the joy in his life, his only child."

Looking up at my mom I said, " how can I just uproot myself, my life here and move away? Everything I want is right here, please don't make me go. Talk to father he would understand," I said as my eyes filled up with a fresh round of tears. Shaking her head she replied," No my love it isn't going to work, you have to leave with us. You have one week to let those close to you know that you won't be returning."

Pulling away my hands from her I stood up angrily. Walking away I went towards a window overlooking the gardens. Without turning around I told her I am not going and they can't make me leave. I knew it sounded childish but so be it. I heard her take a deep breath, her dress rustling as she moved, I knew she was now standing up, losing patience with me in the process.

Coming up behind me I heard her stern voice say, "Isabella Marie Devount, you would act and behave as the young lady you were brought up to be. I would not have you speak in this manner especially to me or your father. This is enough, not another word about this to anyone. You have one week to bid your friends farewell and settle all affairs.'

My lips quivered as she spoke and my heart felt as if someone was pounding it to pieces. I couldn't believe my mother was on my father's side as well. "One more thing," she continued softly, "you have to end the relationship with Keron." Having said that she turned and left the room.

I froze at those very words.

My world slowly stopped as everything around me crumbled. How dare they do this to me. This had to be a very bad dream. Taking one look around the garden, I saw our spot. Keron and I spent countless evenings under that tree, sharing our dreams and hope to spend life together now it was never going to happen.

My heart couldn't take anymore as a gentle breeze blew across my face, I felt everything drain away. Grasping for the curtains I felt it slipping through my fingers as I fainted to the floor.
