Chapter 5 : Is This Love?

"Ugggghhhh!" I groaned. The glare was killing me. I didn't remember falling asleep or at least getting into bed last night. Struggling to sit up the events of yesterday came creeping back. "Oh no," I muttered, today was my birthday. I knew the day was planned out. I mustered the strength to get out of bed and to get dressed. Washing my face I looked into the mirror at the reflection, my face seem sad and tired. I wish birthday wishes came through then I could escape this nightmare.

The ringing of my phone brought me out of my daze. Quickly drying my face, I hurried out of the bathroom and walked towards the sound of my phone. Looking at screen I saw it was Keron. "Hello darling good morning," I said as I answered. "Good morning my sweetheart," his deep husky voice send shivers through me. " I will be picking you up at nine o' clock so be ready," he said.

I felt excited knowing we were spending the day together. "Ok I would see you soon, bye," I said. I looked at the elegant gown I had chosen for today. I wanted this day to be as special as possible. While getting dressed there was knock at my door, "Come in," I said. As the door opened, I saw my mom, a smile slowly creeping across her face as she saw me. "You look beautiful love, happy birthday, she said stepping closer to me.

"Thanks mom, I answered as she hugged me. "Now you are twenty-one my dear girl, you are my life Isabel always remember how proud I am of the young lady you have become, I love you and have fun on your day out." "Breakfast is ready," she said turning to leave. As she walked away I saw the green velvet box with an envelope on my bed. Sitting next to it I opened the envelope. Written on the paper was my mother's handwriting.

Our dearest daughter,

Today on your twenty-first birthday we wish you nothing but the very best. You have grown into a fine young lady making us proud parents. You are beautiful, strong, intelligent and loving. Watching you grow from a baby has been our greatest joy. You made us a family and we are now ready to see you spread your wings and fly, ready to chase your dreams.

Love has come into your life through family, friends and that one special young man. As you journey through life make wise decisions and love endlessly, hold on to your dreams never giving up easily. Here is a gift which belonged to your grandmother it would be a lovely addition to what you are wear today.

My eyes were filled up with tears. Putting down the note I opened the box gently, I saw the most beautiful diamond and emerald necklace. Lifting it up to have a closer look it sparkled in the morning light. Walking towards the mirror I held it up to my throat. I gasped at how stunning it looked. Carefully I put it on and clasped it around my neck.

As I made my downstairs I touched the necklace, this was feeling so magical. I felt so nervous slowly walking so I would not to fall. Lifting my head I beheld a sight that took my breath away. There at the bottom of the stairs stood my ultimate surprise staring at me. It just couldn't be, did my parents do this without me knowing. Keron stood there in front of me, his eyes shining with love as he looked at me. It was as if time stood still between us.

Taking the hand he held out I stepped down, bringing me closer to him. He smelt so good. He leaned in and whispered, "You look dazzling." I felt myself blush. "Happy birthday again my gorgeous Isabel, my sunshine" he said handing me a huge bouquet of lilies and roses. "What are doing here?" I asked happily, "Your parents invited me for breakfast before we headed out," he replied.

I feel dazed by all this. This day was turning out better than I had ever imagined.
