Chapter 60: Where is the bomb?

They covered every crevice and cave, lifted up rocks, widen holes, just to make sure but it was nowhere. Tanya felt disappointed and unsure. Could it be that she had read him wrong?

Despondent they sat down, each on their own rock watching the scenery before them with trepidation. They could see the entire expanse from there. It looked peaceful, undisturbed by any human hand. It was difficult to understand how someone could destroy it.

Could this be the end? All the trouble they had, all the near misses with death, to lose would be out of the question.

They couldn’t give up.

“Ma,”

“Yes, Steve?” she zoomed in on him, he looked terrible.

Still recovering from their first attack the added bruises seemed worse. The scrape on the side of his face was already swollen as dried blood caked his hair.

He walked with a limp, too ─ she had noticed it earlier but didn’t mention it.

“Ma, when I was in the bakkie, I heard them talking.”

“Yes, what did they discuss?”
