Chapter 62: A haunting silence

As they approached the bakkie, it went airborne and fell sideways into the trench formed by the trembling. The other vehicle moved sideways and bumped against a sand bank.

A boulder rolled and landed on the roof. The earth became alive underneath their feet and they were having trouble running. However, they had to continue, they had to get out of the way of the pipe which held a more dangerous enemy than what they were facing.

They could hear a rumble deep within the earth’s core just before the earth split open underneath them and they swerve to the left. With the sudden movement Tanya fell on her hands and knees, her hands bleeding. Without hesitation Steve dragged her to a rock close by.

It formed a natural cave for their protection. Tears streamed from her face. Her body ached but that was not why she cried. She couldn’t believe that they were would never see Dirk or Arno, even Mercia.
